Coach Jim Yerkovich says he may be the best big kid ever at Judge. He stands 7 and plays with a great deal of intensity. Hes quick and smart on the court. His Hes also an academic scoring average for 26 games was 20.2 on 55 percent from the field, despite double and triple coverage. He converted 68 percent from the 6-- all-stat- Green Sheet Honor Squad academic Granite highs Ben Curtis was considered the strongest player in the league. He used his muscle to pull down a dozen rebounds per game and scored 14.2 ppg. on a balanced Farmer squad. He was always assigned the other teams leading scorer to defend. He scored 39 points against South. Steve Schone of Cottonwood was his teams leading scorer at 15.6. A steady player, he was a key performer on defense as well. A 10 rebound game against Skyline highlighted his season. He failed to reach double figures in scoring only once. Rebounding and defense was the forte of Olympus highs Steve Hannay. Coach Ron Huber pointed r. All-Sta- Named Most Valuable Player on roster was Murray high the standout Keith Chapman, a repeater off last years Honor Squad. The 6 senior is one of the states finest stats showplayers. His season-loned him scoring 26.6 points per game on 49 percent from the field and 80 percent from the charity stripe. He also had 357 rebounds, an average of more than 14 per game. Chapman led his team in virtually every category and, despite being its leading scorer, also had 72 assists for the season, along with 57 steals. The other repeater off last years squad is the lone junior selected this year. He is Richard Holmes of Judge Jeff Willardson Cottonwood - 12 Caae Standouts Named To MURRAY. A dozen cagers have been accorded a spot on the Green Sheet Honor Basketball Squad for their exploits during the 1983-8season. The team is made up of players from the nine schools in the Green Sheet area. They include Judge and Murray from the 3A ranks, plus Cottonwood, Granite, Olympus, Kearns and Granger, Cyprus, Taylorsville from 4A. The list includes two repeaters from last years squad and three who have been accorded Academic honors. ' Steve Schone line, and had an average of 13 rebounds per game. The other front line player on the Honor Squad starting unit is Taylorsvilles Mickey Lambourne. The 5 senior was his teams leading scorer with 21.3 ppg. on 49 percent. He had 8.8 rebounds per contest and three assists. Although Lambourne didnt get to show off his skills in the state tourney, he was selected to the Cerebral Palsy all-stteam. Another Cerebral Palsy is Olympus highs Andy Boyce. Boyce, who was forced to sit down a good portion of the second half of most Titan contests, was the dominating player on a fine team. Also a football star, hes headed for BYU to play that sport, but many feel he could also play basketball. The 1 guard had five assists and three steals to go along with his 19 points per game. The other guard on the starting unit is Kearns highs Brett Falk. A two-yestarter in the Cougar backcourt, Falk scored 18 points per game, dished off for five assists and had an average of 4.5 rebounds and four steals. An emotional player, he was also selected to the academic squad. The area had a host of good frontline players this season. Cyprus highs Gerry Holman led his team in most statistical categories and drew a lot of double coverage. He hauled down a dozen rebounds per outing and scored at a 16.8 clip. A three-yea-r letterman, he also was a forceful defensive player. Granger highs Jeff Willardson might have been a guard on many teams, but despite being outsized on the front line, he was a player to be reckoned with. He led the Lancers in scoring at 15.6 and in rebounding with 8.4. Willardson was also an all-st- 6-- all-sta- out that much of Hannays value to in his team wasnt reflected statistics. But his intelligence on the defense and court, his hard-nosehis overall approach to the game were key factors in the Titans 20-- 2 season. He led the team in rebounding with nine per game. He was a Green Sheet Honor Squad football player and is bound for Weber State. Manuel Fabela at point guard was one big reason Granger high had a successful season. His 110 assists stand out among the Lancer stats, along with 9.4 points per game. He was the Lancers outside threat and an extremely intelligent player on the court, running the Lancer delay game to perfection. Taylorsvilles Mike Littlewood dished off for 6.4 assists per game, d yet was still the teams second-leadin- g scorer at 12.2. He also letaveraged 3.8 steals.
