| Show RELIGION CLASS convention on sunday last the religion classes of the box elder stake held their annual convention in the tabernacle in this city meetings were held at ten A SL 51 and 1 2 k P I 1 M I 1 the morning session was devoted principally to listening to reports and getting special instructions on religion class work at the afternoon services the general public was imi invited to be taxa and listen to addresses that had bad been PL m danged for as well veil ap ae remarks that might rafilia bo be made by general board members who were present from the general board elders eldera john henry brans and J P jensen were present and each delivered spen did talks along tho the lines of tho the work in hand at tho the afternoon session elder henry petersen delivered an address on the subject ot of true religious loua training and how best to obtain it prefacing his remarks by readi readding ing a definition of ic religion ligion continuing elder peterson petersen stated that until a certain age in the child is 13 reached when their instinct begins ti to a operate all that can bo be done for them in the way of religious training has but a helpful effect but does docs not stamp indelli bly upon their minds that which is desired when they become a little more matured the teachings and examples which they receive are more helpful and then it is that the future course of the child is determined the home is the proper place to begin the religious training but parents too often make mak e the error of taming their children over to the various organizations and day schoos depending entirely upon the teachers to instruct their children in the things of god as well as the secular things of life nothing tho and children whose homo home training has been neglected bear the marks of that deficiency all through their lives the speaker stated that the religion class is something apart from the other organizations of the church in vint that it teaches the child to do hy by having it done then and there something which is bound to leave a more lasting impression on the little mind elder john henry evans fol followed loved elder petersen along the same line emphasizing the effect of example also stated that there must he be a reconstruction or a remodeling of tile the minds of 0 the boys and girls toward religion li ion before they will fully appreciate it and endeavor to make mahe their lives conform thereto no necessity ol of boing being bong beng ng pie faced straight laced or sanctimonious conlous to be truly religious it if the he ocen occasion slon to light fight in defense of the right ever rises it is a mark of true arr religion to fight for physical as well as moral courage Is necessary in true religion the saviour and the prophet joseph smith were cited as examples of physicals physic aly prave brave toon rain who w were ere not afraid to defend the right parents should bo be very careful of 0 their conduct especially before their children and it does no child any good tor for a parent who is addicted to to tea and coffee drinking drick ing to read the word of wisdom to that child elder evans illustrated his remarks with a number of good stories some of which were taken from life supt bupt 1 D P gave cave a brief review ot of the work dono done in the box elder stake during the past year which showed a healthy condition tile the musical numbers rendered by the choir cliola were the selections that beautiful land sacrament prayer we ever pray for thee trio by the lady members the teachers work Is done quartette by the male members and the anthem in our redeemers de emers name the prayers were offered by elders J A vance and J H 11 lillywhite the sa crement was administered by the bishopric of the first ward during tho the passing of which elder A INT merrill read the section of the doctorine and covenants there was a very good attendance |
