Show December 2001 Carbon and Emery County Sports Guide 16 Castle Valley Association schools prepare for basketball season The junior highs in Carbon and Kmery Counties belong to an athletic league called the Castle Valley Association. The league carries a fairly full schedule of athletic events for the schools involved including volleyball, football, wrestling, basketball and track. In January the basketball season will begin and teams are pres ently being formed for that com- petition. Most schools have separate teams for the varsity, which usually includes ninth grade students and a few eighth graders and a junior varsity which has a number of eighth grade students and a large group of seventh grade students. Some schools even have a seventh grade team as well. PEOPLE WHO DONT HAVE AN AGENT-WHTAKES CAPE OF THEM? O The sport also includes a division for boys and girls, and the competition between the varsity teams of both genders gets quite heated, particularly when it comes to tournament time at the end of the regular season. Last year Canyon View Junior High from Huntington won the league boys championship while the girls title was won by Helper Junior High. This year looks to be just as competitive as usual with some great rivalries raging just like they have in the past. The Helper Junior-Mo- nt Harmon rivalry is always strong n and so is the San Rafael View tussle. It will be an interestingyear in both the girls and boys games.
