History Of War Praised History of the Second World War,by Sir Basil Liddell Hart. (Putnam's,$12.50) This is the best history yet written about World War II. In the opinion of such British journals as The London Sunday ‘Times,it probably neverwill be bettered The late Sir Basil cuts away the bark of propaganda, myth and legend to tell—concisely— what happened. A sampler: —France did not crumble in 1940 because she was dispirited; France was simply outgeneralled, —Hitler could have beaten the Soviets if he had not split his main thrusts into Russia. —Gen. George C. Patton should not have been halted at Germany's gate, after sweeping through France in 1944, to let Field Marshal Viscount Montgomery take the offensive. Patton might have won the war sooner, Liddell Hart also believes the war's ostensible aims went unfulfilled. Poland wound up under Russian domination, and the war “resulted in a Europe so devastated and weakened ... thatits power of resistance was much reduced in the fact of a fresh and greater (Soviet) menace—and Britain, in com- mon with her European neighbors, had becore a poor dependent ot the United States.” Choruses To Sing Monday writer, Ron Clark; original The graduate level class is authors, Ron Davis and Janet directed by Norman Tarbox, Maughan; and press agent, member of the Comniunications Department Faculty, Frank LePere.
