But West Valley City * resident Claudeen Luckartis already preparing for Dec. 25, whenshewill provide Christmas for 15 children she will never meet. Foreight years, Luckart, 46, has set up candytables in the Salt Lake City office of U.S. West andits satellite location on 7000 South. Shesells sweets to her co-workers and uses the modest profits to buy entire Christmaslists of presents requested by children in Salt Lake County’s Youth Services shelter. One year of candy sales yields about $2,500, which also includes a $6-per- hourcontribution from the U.S. West Foundation for the hours Luckart spends during lunch breaks and after hours buying candy, restocking, counting change (she has worn out four change- counting machines), buying gifts and de- livering them to the shelter during the holiday season. “The children get anything they want,” says Luckart. Her husband and family help her stack and wrapthegifts in their home. Past Christmasgifts have included Nintendo 64 video-game systems, Big Wheels and bicycles.
