Show 8A lakeside Review North, Wednesday, July 6, 1983 u?q(sj BmuVs Kaysvillo Woman Tokos Writing Honor s Awmdk8 H2esGiivQ Eight Scouts in the Lakeside Review area have received awards. - A first place KAYSVILLE award in the Utah Arts Council 25th annual writing competition was recently presented to Mrs. Two Boy Scouts from South Weber have attained the Eagle rank in Scouting. They are Rusty J. Smith, 13, son of Ronald and Joyce Smith of 174 E. South Weber Drive, and Lone Reynolds, 13, son of Warren and JoAnn Reynolds, 600 E. South Weber Drive. Dorotha Walker of Kaysville. The prize was earned in the magazine article division. The $300 award was presented to Mrs. Walker by Governor Scott Matheson at an awards banquet at the governors mansion. There were more than 700 entrants in the magazine article category. The competition was up over 20 percent from last year, said Mrs. Walker. Mrs. Walker has won second place and honorable mention awards in the Utah Writers League. The winning article The Most Unusual Pets is a true story about two pet badgers Mrs. Walkers brothers raised. Members of the State Wildlife Division say that badgers cannot be tamed, Thats why I called it the Most Unusual Pets, explained Mrs. Walker. She explained that she wrote the article a few years ago but improved on it during a class at Weber State College. If you have an assignment you will do it. Im a perennial student, stated Mrs. Walker. I started college with my old-e- Smith has completed the seventh grade at Sunset Junior High School where he was a member of the school wrestling-te- am and participated in the district meet and was also on the track and field team. He is active in the Deacons Quorum in his LDS Church ward where he serves as quorum second counselor. He has also earned the Arrow of Light, Faith in God, Duty to God Trail and On My Honor awards. He has been senior patrol leader and is now patrol leader in Troop 33. Reynolds has completed seventh grade at Sunset Junior High School. He has served as senior patrol leader in Troop 33 and has served as secretary and first counselor in the ward Deacons Quorum. Two Clinton Boy Scouts have earned the Arrow of Light .Award, the highest award presented in Cub Scouting. They are David L. Hammel and Travis Wallace of Pack 317 sponsored by the Clinton 3rd LDS Ward. David, a son of SSgt. and Mrs. David L. Hammel of 1269 W. 2175 N., is active in Scouting and enjoys models, biking and fishing. Travis is a son of Mr. and ; Mrs. Brian Wallace of 2100 N. 1225 W. He is interested in space and is an artist. ; Drill Classes Are Offered by Clearfield Rec recreation department CLEARFIELD Clearfield will be offering a second session of drill classes for girls ages 5 and up. Classes will be held on Monday and Wednesday, beginning class from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. " and the intermediate from 11:30 ' p.m. They will start , July 11 and run through August 3. The fee is $5 for eight classes. Registrations are being taken at Clearfield Swim Pool from June 27 through July 8.
