Area high school track teams will be counting on THE EXCHANGE is the relay events for points in the state track meet, Friday and Saturday at Weber State. Viewmonf Boys Win Region Track Title OGDEN It was your average day in northern Utah high school track competition. The .weather was bad, as usual, and Clearfields and Viemonts boys track teams placed high .in their respective meets, as usual. To be exact, both the Vikings .and the Falcons won their regions track meets easily. View-on- t e used nine performances to score most of its 181 points, and the rest of the field wasnt even close. Davis finished second with 129 points. e !; Clearfield used only two finishes to gain the Region ;One title and concluded Friday and Saturdays meet at Weber I'State with 125 points. Weber and .Sky View tied for second place and Layton was in fourth with 90 first-plac- -- first-Iplac- joints. Davis High won the Region Four girls title handily, scoring points. Viewmont finished in second place with 106 points. 171 team The Clearfield girls placed second in Region One, finishing behind Weber High. The Darts womens team was led by Suzie Orton, who finished second in the 200 meters, 400 meters, and the 100 meters. Orton will attend Weber State on a track scholarship next fall. To say that the Viewmont boys team dominated the region meet would be accurate, but understating what happened. The Vikings were again led by Dave Chowen, Kurt Mathews, Jon Warner, Brian Fuller and George Eames. Each won individual titles and the meet, according to Viking Coach Lynn Dubois, went according to plans. Well, almost everything. Falcons used in the region meet last week. The Falcons used two first place finishes, one by J.C. in the shot put and the other by the relay team ad a multitude of other points in lower places to win the .V , " '.V . title. Layton again counted on NOT ALL of the competition speedster Myron Cooper for a athlete takes a break to think major part of its scoring. He was pretty sore, and he felt like he was pulling it, said Dubois. Mathews, who is also pitching for the Vikings in the state baseball tournament, was also concerned about the leg injury affecting his pitching, Dubois said. Because of his withdrawal, Mathews wont be able to run the race in the state meet, Friday and Saturday at Weber State, and will cost Viewmont in the meet. He would have finished no worse than third, said Dubois.
