tenor was in advocacy of personal independence in all the relations of life and ot of integrity to ones highest conceptions and convictions of right better advice to graduates radu ates could scarcely aud gm ent of it not net only from what he be heard about it but by what he had seen today to day he dwelt upon the importance of the calling chosen by the normal graduates and directed to them some excellent Xcell ent suggestions and advice he referred to the contest between governor murray and the legislature regarding an appropriation to the university ver sity restated he stated that the Go governors refusal to approve it was based upon two grounds namely that the university E was under unde r th co control katr ol 01 of an illegal set of officers and that it was sectarian in character he expressed the view that the withholding of the appropriation was not a profyr way to test the legal authority of the off officers leers who controlled oled the a university and stated that in his view the question was important only tor for the reason that ill etwas was desirable to have proper and le legal al methods prevail ff if the other objection to the appropriation pria tion was true namely that the university was sectarian in character then the speaker thought public money ought not to be appropriated to it he expressed the ogen opinion that whatever might have been e truthfully said of the university in ia the past in this regard IT COULD NOT in his opinion at the present time be termed a sectarian institution he thought there ought to be no reason why its nonsectarian non nou sectarian character should not be thoroughly established in the understanding of the public and that if this were done and all doubt upon this point were removed m 0 ed tere fiere would be no
