Just the mention of mellow conjures up images of such pleasures as apple cider, autumn leaves, and mild Cheddar cheese. Pumpkin pie is mellow, and so is Indian summer. Golden delicious apples are mellow, as are Bartlett pears and old movies like The Old Yeller, Sound of Music, and Singing in the Rain. Other unequivocally mellow things include songs by Barbra Streisand, memories of Salt Air, and lawn games like crochet or badminton. So appealing is the contemplation of anything mellow that even the nations banks are seeking to bathe their traditionally mercenary transactions in a benevolently mellow light via television commercials. The jingle of coins once heard in the background of advertising spots for financial institutions seeking recovery from economic doldrums has suddenly been replaced with the jingle of jingles musically mellow, sometimes nostalgic, state- ments about togetherness, friendship, and trust. If one listens long enough to the accompanying lyrics of commercials for leading lending establishments, he can almost begin to believe that all it takes to succeed in business, pass a college examination, get married, or even have a baby, is a friendly relationship with an altruistic bank. After viewing one banks version of where babies come from, it doesnt take much- - of a stretchof imagination to picture the belabored womans husband calling his loan officer before even dialing the doctor. Hello! 0fe Mr. Magnanimous? Just calling to report that my wifes pains are coming every ten minutes. And I thought if -- CD & WSK2? 0 OagnB (O ro 1 I you could foresee closing on my loan application before they get any closer, Id take her on down to the hospital. What? You say we can finish signing the papers in the delivery room? How thoughtful! By the way, dont forget to wash your hands. (Fade out to overjoyed parents holding new arrival, while banker passes out cigars.) So mellow are the video scenarios painted by banks that one almost has to laugh. But dont laugh too hard you might get a bankrupture. dJtBSO fa Q$ 3 wm IU Homemakers Earn Little Sister Award o CTO o CMS'' o o wipi-m- mm o OdsHSTN viv? i mbrn gacaieD id ($na& The Davis Chapter of convention. &43gI3& 4SW& QPR693B0 The chapters past president, Homemakers has been presented the award for Little Sister Mrs. LuAnn Roberts, was elected as state reporter.
