Show ELIZABETH HAVEN BARLOW our aged and beloved belij ved mother and grandmother elizabeth haven barlow departed this life at her home at 8 am sunday morning december 25 1892 of old age she was born in mass dec 28 1811 in her youthful days she had bad a great desire for an education and was willing to make most any sacrifice to obtain it she taught school for several years before and after her marriage which calling she ws was w s much devoted to at onetime one time the prophet and patriarchs children were her pupils fram her youth she was religiously inclined while attending one of the seminaries she ehe in connection with several other young lady schoolmates used to meet at regularly appointed times and sing talk and pray concerning jesus she was chosen their leader after rigidly investigating the elaime claims of the elders she became identified with the church of jesus christ of latter day saint in her native town in the fall of 1887 being baptized by willard at fl first rot being stron strongly vly opposed by her father who afterwards after warde however joined the church thas next fall she bade her relatives ani and friends goodbye good bye and started for par far west missouri a distance of f 1500 miles to join oin the main body of the saints she was driven from there to quincy illinois where she met for the first time israel barlow whom she ehe married on the of feb 1840 from here she moved to nauvoo where she labored in the nauvoo temple after being driven by the mob from their home and property which they afterwards sold for a song they started for the boky B oky mountain Moun with an ox team la in brigham young Youngs 11 company while cros crossing slug the she gave birth to a son she arrived in salt gait lake city in the talk falk of 1848 and aad lived there for two years then them removed to bountiful with the first settlers during the move south in 1858 she drove a team to payson and back she was present at the organization march 17 1842 of the first roller relief society in the church and was dent of the first one organized in bountiful which position she held for over fifteen years she has assisted liberally in the building of temples anil and providing for the wants of the poor she has always aldaya taken a gre ere t interest tin In erest in the missionary labors of her husband sons and grand sons and in the spread of the gospel in general she had eight children six sons ond and two daughters six 0 of f whom survive her also forty nine grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren grandchild reB she was conscious to t the last and her last moments were spent in thanking the lord that the 1 gospel had bad been brought to her and in exhorting her children to faithfulness ab passed away happy and satisfied and so peacefully we could scar scarcely bely tell when she was gone the funeral per vices cei were held tuesday noon in the east bf bountiful tabernacle the stand and coffin were appropriately decorated and six of her grandsons carried the coffin bishop call ablation L M grant and counselor J H grant all spoke of her noble character and works and her abing integrity to the work of god apostle franklin n D richards gave a history of her ancestors ancestor saying that his grandmother president Bri brigham ghana youngs mother and sleter sister barlow a mother were own sisters aters st for that reason he had always calle callei I her bole A cousin elizabeth he said that when nineteen years old be was called on j a mission and went one mornin morning to uncle john havens haven Is sister bart barlows low lows lowis Is fa fathers therIs place in nauvoo that he might receive from him a blessing said the speaker 1 I found him hoe boo ing corn core lie he stuck his hoe in the ground by a hill bill and I 1 knelt down and he placed his hands on my heat head and gave me a blessing that I 1 aull remember and that is not all fulfilled yet ai GRANDSON ISRAEL |
