Show THE THUNDERBIRD Jazz coming to SUSC BY GREG Everyone get ready for pro basketball! The Utah Jazz are scheduled to play the Seattle Supersonics on October 10 at the SUSC Centrum. This game will mark the opening of Utah's 1986 exhibition season. It will also mark the first time the Jazz have played in southern Utah. Sponsored by the Utah Summer Games Association, the proceeds from this event will go toward the Summer Games program. It's one of several events planned by the Summer Game Committee, according to Rich Wilson, director of the Utah Summer Games. Wilson reported that the Jazz will be in town for a total of five y days. He also said that the team will have practice sessions which will be open to the public, and he encouraged everyone to take advantage of this opportunity to see the Jazz in practice. The Jazz are looking at a new offensive attack this year with the trade of Adrian Dantley. Dantley was traded in August to the Detroit Pistons for forward Kelly Tripucka and center Kent Benson. With Dantley (and his 29 points a game) gone, more pressure will be put on veteran forwards Thurl Bailey and Karl Mailman" Malone to produce in the point column, but tne addition of Tripucka should be a big help. Also, the return of Darrell Griffith this year should be a tremendous help in the backcourt. Griffith sat out last season with a broken foot. With Seattle comes the talent of former U of U stars Danny Vranes and Tom Chambers. Also, Xavier McDaniel will be here for Seattle. McDaniel contended last season for the NBA rookie of the year honor. Utah's Malone was also in contention for that crown, which controversially fell upon Patrick Ewing of the Knicks, who missed nearly half the season with an injury. Five hundred student tickets have been by ASSUSC. Ticket prices will be $6.50 and $8.50, and go on sale Tuesday at 10 a.m. near the flagpole at the Student Center. If Tuesday brings inclement weather, the tickets will be sold in the student lounge. The Summer Games Committee wants to make the exhibition the game and making the Jazz game an annual event. Selling-ou- t feel welcome in Cedar City are factors in getting the Jazz to play here in future seasons, said Wilson. "We want to make it an integral part of the community." & JO .A W MILES PACE SEPTEMBER 30, 1986 TUESDAY cr- . - Student Prices (quarterly) j Aerobics $55.
