It's only seven miles from St. George. One moonlit night some friends and stopped in Snow Canyon to use the facilities, and off in the distance we could hear the cry of the lonely coyotes; just like in the movies. There are campground facilities available. The canyon is unique in that it was formed by erosion and volcanic eruption. Another 10 or so miles up the road is Gunlock Reservoir. It has a boat dock and allows beach camping. Keep going past Gunlock toward Veyo, and there you'll find some natural hot springs. Getting back to Cedar you'll take US 18 to State Road 56. Be sure to stop at Old Iron Town. It's an old ghost town alive with memories of days and folks gone by. skipped Zion but you shouldn't. The lodge closes on Oct. 26 but the park remains open year round. The visitors' center is also open. Holly and Elk Meadows Ski Resort. Follow the signs through Beaver to get there. You can also go from there over to Panguitch Lake where some of the best ice fishing you'll ever do in your life will We're back in Cedar with an acute case of ski fever. Well, you are in luck, because ski resorts we got. Just an hour away, through Parowan, is Brian Head. Lift tickets this year are $19 for a full day pass. Activities planned for this year include the Yama Fest. It's an annual three day snowmobile event. Sometime in December are the annual Dog Sled Races, and the yearly Coca-Col- a Cup will be held here again this year. Nordic and alpine skiing equipment and lessons are available on the mountain. Lodging and all accommodations are there. On your way home, take the long way and go past the Parowan Gap Petroglyphs.
