Show The Salt Lake Tribune, Sunday, March Wiping Out Cancer: A Mission Possible The star of television's Mission Impossible said Saturday the elimination of cancer is not impossible and it could be wiped out in your lifetime. Peter Graves, honorary public education chairman for the Cancer American Society, said with early diagnosis half of the 350,000 American who il, 1873 A 29 wdl die of cancer in 1973 could be saved. One person in three now survives cancer, he said. Mr. Graves was m Salt Lake City to promote the societys April crusade and to address to leaders of the state's Cancer Society volunteers at a dinner at the University Club, 136 E. South Temple. Mr. Graves said the society's public education program is to encourage people to nave a checkup by a physician whenever any of the seven warning signs of cancer appear. Films, literature and can speaking engagements make people aware of the warning signs and the disease can be cured by being caught m time, he said. Continual research funded through donations and government grants could eventually eliminate the disease, he said Since cancer strikes two of every three American families. Mr. Graves said public donations to cancer research are needed more each year.
