good progress ress has been made upon that with the united states State of colombia the ratification fleat fi ign of these treaties will probably y lead directly to negotiations with other american powers and colonies indeed a movement is already noted in the british west indies to secure a reciprocity cl cip rocity treaty with the united states witti aith kith the exception of the treaty which relates to me inter ahter oceanic canal all these are commercial treaties and I 1 hough diff differing arhl considerably sider ably in detail they are modeled mo daled upon the reciprocity treaty with mexico the injunction of secrecy has formally been removed from the spanish treaty the text having already been published and it is not unlikely u ri likely this precedent will be followed follow ec 1 1 in res respect hect to the remainder of the series it is understood efforts will be made to have these treaties discussed with open doors but it is doubtful if a majority of the senators will assent
