Show 2C DESERET NEWS, THURSDAY, MAY 26, 1977 Counseling needed to kick DEAR ABBY: I am a college girl with a high I.Q., but I have a big problem concerning men. I relate very well to older men, but college men seem so immature that 1 cant work up any romantic interest in any of them. Believe me, Ive tried. This year Ive had two affairs with older men. I never thought I'd be that kind of girl. It would really hurt my parents if they knew, so Im very discreet about it. These men werent just men Id picked up somewhere, but people Id known a long time. Abby, I want so much to be held and loved, but 1 dont want to be on the receiving end only. When a man gives me his love I do everything possible to give as much as I get. Right now Im flirting with a married man who is 47. I'm sure nothing lasting can ever come of it, but I cant seem to help myself. Lately Ive been having recurring suicidal thoughts and that scares the daylights out of me. Please help me. WANTS TO BE LOVED DEAR WANTS: EVERYBODY wants to be d emotional loved, but you may have some problems that need to be resolved. If theres a Suicide Prevention Clinic in your town, call them. They offer excellent counseling. Or call your mental health clinic for an appointment. If your college has a counseling service, take advantage of it. Please write again and tell me which of these recommendations you've pursued, and let me know how you're doing. I care. DEAR ABBY: My husband and I are the same age. but he prefers older women. I dont know why he married me. He didnt have to. gartyir i K deep-seate- . t'rvS DEAR ABBY ABIGAIL VAN BUREN habit older-ma- n Soon after we were married. I found out he had been living with a woman in her forties since he was 18. file was then 23). He wanted to keep on seeing her, but I put a stop to it. Then he started seeing a neighbor's wife. She was in her early fifties. We had to move away from there before she broke up our marriage. When our first child was born. I hired an ugly old woman in her sixties to help me. I thought surely my husband could be trusted with her, but I was wrong. He was with her every chance he got. Everybody tells me I am nice looking. Is there something wrong with me? Or is it him? VEGAS DEAR VEGAS. Its him. HEAR ABBY: I am a good job, my home is paid (or and care of my sell. widow. have I Im able u to take with a 34 eurol( Nt. been keeping coman man for two years. I'm afraid people will think I am his mother. The age difference never seems to bother him, but it bothers me. Also Im afraid my daughter and son (they are 30 and 27) think I'm making a fool of myself. Whats wrong with me, Abby? Other widows my age would give their right arm to be in my shoos. TOO OLD FOR HIM DEAR TOO: Your signature is the tipoff. If you feel that youre tool old for him. you arc. If you can't rid yourself of that feeling, try an older model for comfort. There are pros and cons to taking early retirement As a general thing is it to ones advantage to retire at 62 rather than wait to 63? I have friends who have done both. One says earlier is better than later. The other regrets retiring at all. What do you say? B.E., Salt Lake City. One of the best approaches to these problems weve read is in the Consumer Survival Kit, produced by the Maryland Center for Public Broadcasting, Owings Mills, Md. They reprinted an article from Changing Times, the Kiplinger Magazine, June 1975 issue. It was reported that so great is the appeal of early retirement that more than half of all new retirees are under age 65. All other things being equal, the article stated, a person who retired at 65 rather than 62 and drew a full benefit would be 77 before his total benefits exceeded those payable as a result of the earlier retirement. You must also remember that by retiring early you collect a scaled-dow- n proportion of what you would be entitled to if you were already 65. You collect lower benefits for one to three years longer and thus could increase the total amount collected during your retirement. Among advantages on waiting until 65 is that your SS benefits will dovetail ith medicare eligibility and additional income that may be available under a company pension plan as well as tax advantages provided for senior citizens. Among disadvantages of waiting to 65 is that every year you wait reduces your remaining life expectancy and the total amount you will get from SS. In any event your primary consideration ought to be how adequate your total income will be after retirement not how to take the most out of SS. w nm OUR READERS' ACTION Write to Do It Man, P O- AUDOETtSTORE What is the difference between irregulars and seconds that stores advertise? You wrote your problem to us last October. We wrote to the bookstore but never received a reply. We wrote them a second time just recently. This is their reply: The book arrived in January and you were notified but you told them you had changed your mind and didnt want it after all. They are a bit miffed since they say they spent many hours trying to find the book only to have you refuse to buy it. The ancient Greeks and Romans were aw are that shod horses, either pulling chariots or carrying riders, tended to skid on wet pavement, says the association, a group made up of companies engaged worldw ide in the groov ing and grinding of all types of pavement. In the ancient city of Ephesus in Turkey, which was settled by Greeks in the 10th century B C., remnants of a marble street still exist, showing clear vestiges of grooves, the association says. soD dJOOQPDroiMi readers Irregulars and seconds 'Groov DO-I- pFOODGp bPaglCDO T Reg.
