Show .J J1- awards aired Awards have been announced for the sixth annual Museum-Galler- "The entries in photography have grown in scope and technique. The 121 entries offer a variety of talent and subject matter that will be most pleasing to all visitors. We appreciate the support of our artists and photographers and offer special thanks to them for sharing their talentssaid Mrs. Glover. The show was judged by Peter L. Myer, director of galleries, Brigham Young university; Wayne Gledhill, former director for the Salt Lake Art center and Louise Hubbard, A.V.A. Logan. y Peach Days Art festival Brigham City. Chairman Delone B. Glover said the winners were selected from among 121 entries in this in years show. The top works were; Oil - professioal; First place; Ned Young - "Golden Hours,"; Merit; Jason Chee - Canyon with a Legend; Colleen Bradford - Bachelor Buttons ; Child Utah Beverly Blossoms. Oil - amateur: First place; Delavena Dolan - "Mountain Spencer R. (Spence) Reeder, g 53, a resident of Brigham City,' has announced his candidacy for a position on the Box Elder Board of Education, representing the north section of the city, life-lon- tricts). Dr. Monson is associate professor of education at Utah State university. He is a former public school teacher in both Utah and Arizona, and also has served as an elementary school principal. He taught at the University of Texas, New York university, and Arizona State university as well as USU. Dr. Monson has authored over 30 professional publications and is listed in the 1975 edition of Outstanding Educators of America. The candidate is a native of Magna, Utah. He is married to the former Jane Brinton and the couple have seven child' ren. He has served in a PTA organization, on community service committees, as an institutional representative in Boy Scouts of America, and is an active member of the LDS church. He currently serves as bishop of the Logan 27th ward. (Precinct Former Committee Member Dr. Monson is a former member of the LDS General Church Writing committee. He has authored church lesson materials in the area of parent education and served for two years as chairman of that commit- tee which is concered with parent educaj The USU professor' has also been a consultant for the church education weeks speaking in the area of Parenting" and Relationships. School-Hom- e He has conducted workshops throughout Utah and neighboring states in the area of Discipline and Managing Children for both educators and parents. The board hopeful feels his past experi- ence in public education, being the father of seven children, his training and experience with parent concerns, and his current position in higher education all qualify him for his announced candidacy. He states that his main interest in seeking the position is to assure quality education for all pupils within the state of Utah. He sees the state board of education as being in a unique position to give assistance to local boards throughout the state, in providing leadership,- disseminating materials and helpful information, and - maintaining a strong local control of the schools. Dr. Monson has worked closely in the past with schools in the Box Elder district. He has supervised student teachers in the district, conducted workshops for teachers and parents locally, and states that he is very interested in Box Elder schools and the educational programs offered within your district. No. 3). After a career as a civilian employe of the US Air Force 'at Hill Air Force Base, the last ten years as a department manager, Reeder is seeking to become actively engaged , e, . . Having attended a majority of the school board meetings in the past six or seven months, he stated, I'm disturbed by some of ,the things I have seen and heard in these meetings. As a result I feel changes are in order in many areas of school administration responsibility. I can see no other conceivable way to effect these changes than to change the present makeup of the school board. I would propose contingency budgeting which would provide back-u- p plants that could be followed in the event of revenue drop. . L. Owen wants reelection candidate Edward D. Ward, Box Elder county native, is a candidate for the Utah House of Representatives from District No. 61 (Brigham City and Mantua). A Democrat, Ward served in public office previously as a county commissioner in 1948-4He whs bom and reared in Willard and graduated from Box Elder High school, later receiving a degree in vocational agriculture from Utah State university. He earned an MS degree in educational administration from USU and taught in Box Elder county schools for 43 years. The aspirant is active in the LDS church, having held a number of positions in both the ward and stake. He also has been active in community affairs, having served as president of the Brigham City Jaycees and is a former recipient of the Distinguished Service award. The six new traditional wards, to be given each year, and the winners for this year are: Box Elder County Bank award: A purchase prize of $100 to the artist for a painting of a Brigham City landmark.
