Thursday morning a crowd was also anticipated as floriculturists and flower arrangers show up with their more delicate offerings for judging later in the morning. Janice Holmgren, director, stated that the entries seemed to be going about normal. She noted that in recent years the entries have been approximately half and half from the north and south sectors of the county, where in the past there were considerably more from the Tremonton area. Another director, Mary Ann Holman, noted that there are three new departments in the womens division: upholstery, wood refinishing, and photography. She quickly added that these departments, along with all others, are open to both sexes and that male entries in the arts and hobbies have been common for many years. Its still unusual, but not unheard of, for males to enter and win in the canning and baking area. It was noted that registration has been smoother this year since some 95 women are listed as assisting with the fair this year in the womens division, entries excluding all the which are judged on a separate basis. With the opening of school just around the corner it is well to remember an old Chinese proverb, "Learning is like rowing upstream: not to advance is to drop back, Regardless of how much we adults know about the importance of school, its hard sometimes to get a kid to get his hair cut and put on shoes again to begin the school year. Just for fun I took a quick poll of kids around the neighborhood to find out what they thought about going back to school. I cornered the Jensen kids up the street and got their opinion. Miriam was all for it. She told me she was very glad it was starting. Amy on the other hand stated, I dont really care old Sally was for it. Seven-yea- r just plain happy, about the whole thing. Mary Endress expressed herself, I think it should start later like California. I called the Hyde kids who have always been special friends of mine and found that Betty Ann who enters high school this year said It will be an exciting experience but sort of scarey. Im afraid Ill get lost. Teresa who starts junior high said It will be neat to meet a lot more people and Cindy wanted to go back to school to meet my new teacher. James Jensen who does our yard work I like it, its great, said, spoken like a true farm boy who might be getting a little tired of the summer work. old granOur eleven-yea- r ddaughter Margaret had one word for it, yuk.
