Here is a run down of recent action involing local little league gridders. City scoring threats. The last Brigham score occurred late in the last quarter when Q.B. Kipp Baty faked a handoff and kept the ball for a scamper to the end zone. Baty then put the extra point on the board. The defense sparked by John Mason, John Hepworth, Dennis Moore, Douglas Moore, and Tom Walker shut off all of North Ogdens running attempts to score with hard tackling and charging penetrations. In the game with North Ogden on Thursday (Sept. 6) Brigham sustained a long drive with the hard running of Dan Eskelsen and Mike Hinchman. The BC defnse led by Brett Wallace, Bryan Oakeseon, Lane Velasquez, Butch Arbon and Chris Williams held the South Ogden offense to 61 yards O rushing yards passing. Outstanding tackles were made by Keith Sayama, Garth Smith On Saturday Sept. 8 the game was played at Centerville on a cold rainy day. It was mostly a defensive battle with the only run score coming on a by Danny Smith. The extra point was made by Kirk Secrist. Smith's run was made possible by the blocking of Doug Eskelsen, Scott Kling, Brad McMillian, Don Hendricks and Gordon Dodd. Hendricks and Secrist made good yardage throughout the game. The defense was led by Mark Thompson, Dean . yard pass from Kline Adams to Brent Gray a 35 yard punt return by Clark Anderson, and 25 yard punt return by Kevin Jep-pese- The 70-- North team defeated Sunset by a score of in a game marked by the tremendous play of the Brigham defesnive unit. Brigham won the toss and after several good runs by Woodruff, Wight, Earl and S.L. Throughout the game the blocking of center Dwight Goodwin and linemen Derek and Dirk Roundy opened big holes for he ballcarriers and by prevented penetration Ogdens defense. The Brigham City defense was outstanding throughout the game limiting Ogden to one first down. The first half was mostly played on the Smithfiield side of the 50 but fumbles and penalties hampered the Brigham offense. The second half was played mostly in Brigham territory but the Brigham defense rose to the occasion and stopped the Smith-fiel- d drive. Smithfield at one time got to the Brigham 15 before they were stopped. Excellent end play by Kent Poelman and Steven Lancaster, and hard charging tackle play Jess by Arthur Heredia, Scivially and John Carver stopped the end sweeps.
