Although students must repay loans, many of them are subsidized, which means the government pays the interest on the loan while the student is in school, during grace periods and during any deferment periods. The government also sponsors a work-stud- y program, which can be applied for through FAFSA. Only qualified students are eligible for work-stud- y jobs designated for the Other job openings that program. can apply for are posted on anyone the job boards in Roosevelt and Vernal. Perhaps one of the most unique forms of financial aid available at USU Uintah Basin :s concurrent enrollment Concurrent enrollment offers free classes at USU Uintah Basin to students enrolled in high school. For students who take full advanof concurrent enrollment it is possible for them to earn their associate degree by the time they graduate from high school. Doing so makes them eligible for the Centennial Scholarship, which will pay for 75 percent of the remaining two years tuition. tage SupervisorAdvisor Bob Peterson said most students dont realize they can take concurrent enrollment classes through the summer after they graduate. As long as they have their associates by the September after they graduate from high school, they are eligible for the Centennial Scholarship. Schurz mentioned that many students think it would be an advantage to graduate early because there is a scholarship offered for students who graduate from high school early. However, she said they dont realize that it is usually financially wiser to remain enrolled in high school and take classes at USU Uintah Basin. The money saved by seizing the opportunity of free tuition for a few classes each trimester of a students senior year is often much greater than the amount of the early graduation scholarship.
