Sheriffs Duchesne County Boren said, David Detective Although there doesnt seem to be a big problem in our area there is the potential of it becoming one. Through the investigation several individuals were identified as persons making, using, or distributing pirated access cards. The arrest Thursday is the first of its kind in the Uintah Basin and most likely wont be the last. Boren said Theft occurs when persons manipulate an access card or a satellite receiver in such a way that the person receiving the satellite signal is not charged for the service. The signal from the satellite is continually sent to the receiver, enabling the user to have an assortment of channels that is normally only available by purchasing specific programming. There are approximately 100 pay per view channels 24 hours a day 7 days a week, including certain pornographic broadcasts that are restricted in the state of Utah. Boren said that local law enforcement will be relentless in their pursuit and prosecution of those individuals responsible for making and distributing pirated satellite access cards. Duchesne County Attorney Cleve Hatch was asked about the thefts of satellite services in our area. Hatch In reviewing the recent said reports and information, it appears that thousands of dollars worth of services have been stolen in our community. He said that good people in our community who would the National Police Utah Highway Patrol attend shooting championships were five to six relays for each match. The competition is very stiff. You need to practice and compete to maintain your edge in this level of Sgt Russ Lee and Sgt. Larry Wehrli participated in the National Rifle Associations, National Police in Championships Shooting Jackson, Miss. They attended for the State Regional Match at the Patrol Highway Mississippi Academy, prior to the national competition, to get ready for nationals and to get classified in their competitive classifications. A shooter must shoot in two 150 round matches, in matches, to be classified in both a revolver class and a semi auto class. With this accomplished, they competed for Utah at nationals. There were teams from Germany, Canada and Venezuela, from out of the U.S. Local officers from Vernal City also came to compete. It was a terrific experience for any competitive and serious shooter to make it to this level of competition. They Vernal officers represented their city very respectively. They came back with a first place in the new High Master City classification team in their four man semi-aut- o match. The city and their chief need to be applauded for the support that they give to their officers. Wehrli and Lee competed in 16 matches. At the academy there is 100 position range, where 100 shooters shoot at one time. There competition. Wehrli placed second in two semi-aut- o matches, first in the semi-aut- o match and second in the overall state semi-aut- o classification. Lee placed third in the revolver match and fourth in the semi-aut- o match. They placed second in the two man semi-aut- o team state classification. The state was unable to fund troopers to go back, so they went back at their own expense again this year. They feel it is something that they have done in the past years and Utah should be represented. If the troopers had the facility that they have used in past years, it is guaranteed that the state troopers would have done much better. Without proper practice, in any endeavor, you are not able to do your best. It is to bad that the range they have used for so many years has been closed to them. They were only able to use the range they practice and compete at for about two weeks this year, before it was shut down by the Uintah County Commissioners. 25-ya- rd 50-ya- rd 50-ya- rd 50-ya- rd NRA-sanction- . UBTVs Mansfield said Our goal is to stop the piracy. Our approach for now is to prosecute and sue for damages those supplying end users. In fact we are, for a short time period, offering amnesty to any end user who will come forward and become a legitimate customer again, as some have all ready done. The age of the other animal was not reported. There has still not been a report of an animal which tested positive from the 0 age range. The Utah of Department Agriculture and Food (UDAF) strongly advises horse owners throughout the state to continue to protect their animals by vaccinating them for the West Nile Virus if they havent done so already. The UDAF also advises all Utahns to take necessary precautions to protect themselves from WNV. The UDAF has been advising horse owners to administer two vaccination shots this past spring. It is now advisable to administer a booster shot for added protection. The WNV vaccine is available from local veterinarians. The most common sign of West Nile virus in horses is weakness, in the usually hindquarters. Weakness may be indicated by a widened stance, stumbling, leaning to one side and toe dragging. In extreme cases, paralysis may follow. Fever is sometimes evident, as are depression and fearfulness. WNV causes encephalitis and affects the central nervous system. Horse owners who suspect West Nile viral infection of their animal should contact their veterinarian immediately. Approximately 13 of horses that show signs of the illness will die. Eighty percent of WNV in horses occurs in the months of August and September. Horse owners who have not already done so should contact their veterinarian and have their horses vaccinated, though vaccination after exposure may not protect the horse against the disease. The equine vaccine requires two doses and takes approximately five weeks to offer protection from the disease. Once vaccinated, yearly booster shots are necessary. Horse owners can protect their animals by applying approved repcl-lan- ts to the animals and by controlling mosquitoes and mosquito breeding areas. Horse owners may also protect the animals by putting them in the bam or other enclosed structures. If you have questions concerning your health or believe you may have contracted West Nile Virus, please contact your physician. POOR |
