L-- Mites on the move ): UBATC graduates police cadets The graduation ceremony for Uintah Basin Applied Technology Police Academy, Colleges Saturday. Sept. 27, graduated 13 cadets: A. Bjorn Carlson, Stephanie David Cox, Fairey, Michael Gledhill. Dustin Gray, Zachary Howick, Roger Ledbetter, Monty Nay, Tory Park, Dela Rowley, Allan Tucker, Jennifer Tucker, and Trevor W:od. A statistical analysis of these graduates revealed that the class consisted of 3 females and 10 males. They have an average age of 27.4, with the oldest being 35, and the youngest being 2 . All the cadets are married, and are the parents of 29 children with 5 more on the way. Their average firearms proficiency rating is 89.2 percent, and their average final testcertification scores are 91 percent. Cadets Stephanie Cox, Zachary Howick. Monty Nay, and Allan Tucker were employed with local law enforcement agencies prior to their enrollment in the academy, and two cadets received employment during this training: Bjorn Carlson with the Roosevelt Police Department and Michael Gledhill with the Police Wellington Department. The program consisted of speakers Clair Davis of the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, and Ken Wallentine, UBATCs Perce Officers Standards and Training These supervisor. speakers impressed upon the graduates the importance of ethical behavior as peace officers, reminding them they will be held to a higher standard. Wallentine then administered the Code of Ethics to the cadets. Slade Gurr spoke before presenting the Cecil F. Gurr Award. His remarks focused on the qualities the chief possessed, namely dedication, compassion, wisdom, loyalty, determination, personal integrity, leadership, fairness, kindness, and honesty. The recipient of this aw ard is chosen by the cadets as they score each other based on these qualities, and is given to honor the chief and others who have given their lives in the service of law enforcement This years recipient was Allan 1 gram concluded with the cadets receiving their graduation certificates. With four sessions now completed, UBATCs Police Academy is one of the best programs in the state. Peace Officers Standards and Ken Supervisor Training UBATC is Wallentine, said already at the point that Peace Officer Standards and Training expected at the 6 or 7 year mark. Working toward a dedicated academy facility, and staffing with a very talented and experienced supervisor in Wayne Embleton, are but two signs that the program will continue to successfully serve the Uintah Basin. He said The UBATC program is rigorous, and challenges even the most dedicated, but it is flexible enough that a law enforcement candidate can work and support a family while studying to achieve his or her career goal." The Dinah Mites, goodwill ambassadors for the Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce, have concluded a busy week. On Saturday, Sept. 27, the Dinah Mites started the day with the grand opening of Wild On Hobbies. The new hobby store is owned and operated by Dennis Vincent, well known in the area for his directorial work in local school plays and the Outlaw Trail Festival. Vincents new hobby shop features a wide variety of motorized remote control vehicles and airplanes and other interesting items to fill those free hours with fun and excitement. Items for starting a Christmas village are also available at Wild On Vincents Hobbies. personal Christmas village, which has been featured in the Vernal Express, is on display in the window of the shop. The next stop for the Dinah Mites was the open house for the new Uintah Recreation District is accepting registrations until Friday, Oct. 17, for the accordion picture album class to be taught on Tuesday, Oct. 21. Participants will learn to make accordion picture albums which fold up like mini accordions. These albums are a unique way to display pictures or make great gifts. The class will be taught by Stephanie Atwood of the Robins Nest from 9 p.m. The class is open to participants 7-- RE-ESTABLI- SH Everyone at sometime can have an unexpected problem damage their credit. The pro Parish House of St. Pauls Episcopal Church. There they enjoyed the music of students and teachers from Uintah School of Music and the Arts along with platters of enticing snacks. Then it was off on their Goodwill Tour 2X3 getting underway Oct. 2. They visited with the Chambers of Commerce in Roosevelt and Heber City before going on to Park City for lunch with Park City Chamber members. The group then traveled to Cedar City for a three night stay where they attended Little Shop of Horrors die evening of Oct. 3. On Oct. 4 the Dinah Mites toured and Park National Zion's Museum. Wildlife Rosenbruch They also attended Tuacahn Theatre in the evening to see Unsinkable Molly Brown.
