It is not too early to begin soliciting sponsors for the nationwide event scheduled for Saturday, April 29 at 9 a.m. Starting point in San Juan County is the Albert R. Lyman Middle School in Blanding. Last year, 72 people made the walk, which began at Church Rock in Dry Valley and ended at Newspaper Rock State Park. Those 72 walkers raised $2,843 to help fight birth defects. We hope to have about 200 walkers this year, say Lori May of Blanding and Ron Johnson of Monticello, who are the event for the Utah income low as revealed by returns of those Nearly federal income taxes filing from Utah reported federal adjusted gross income of less than $10,000 on their 1987 returns, according to a recent report published by the Utah State Tax Commission. Larry Lee, hospital financial director, reported that new revenue at the hospital is 11.81 percent below budget for the He said this can be accounted for in part by the later than planned start-udate of the hospital swing bed program. Expenses are 13 percent under budget, with more cost savings possible, Lee year-to-dat- e. p said. Larry Putnam, hospital administrator, presented board members with a rough draft of hospital policy for credit and collections. He said if the board finds the draft acceptable, it will be finalized and handed out to patients in a simplified form. $250,000. Hurry in for Fabulous Savings! Also, Putnam reported the hospital had cancelled two equipment contracts at a savings of $13,750 annually. The board approved purchase of liability insurance for the hospital at an annual premium in excess of $30,000, almost double the cost of such insurance one year ago. Also, the board approved a move for the hospital from Amerinet Group Purchasing to a group purchase plan offered by Lutheran Health Systems. Hospital Administrator Putnam said the move could save up to 15 percent annually. The board also approved a request by the county director of ambulance services for two hand-hel- d radios at a cost of each. The radios will be $1,000 two-way used for consultation by physicians and the ambulance crew. The radios will be purchased with money from the ambulance fund. Dr. Val Jones, who will begin practicing fulltime at the Blanding Clinic this summer, told the board he would like to year-to-dat- a birthing center in Blanding. I am not going to demand it, Jones said. I would like it see to be considered as something that will benefit the com- munity.' The board authorized Ray-buJack, board chairman, to get an estimate of the cost of a study to determine if the Blanding Clinic can be architecturally modified to accommodate a birthing center. Jack will consult with Lynn Elliott, architect for a planned expansion of the Four Comers Regional Care Center, of which Jack is administrator. The care center is under the same roof as the clinic. Putnam noted that staffing a birthing center will require the services of a registered nurse and an anaethesiologist. Fana Arballo came before the board with a request for recruitment of a second physician to practice in Monticello. The board agreed to do their best, advising Arballo that m Studded snow tire removal The Utah Department of Transportation advises motor- be used only from October 15 through April 15.
