Francom, son of William and Kay Francom of Monticello has completed training in fundamental military skills at the Army ROTC Camp Challenge at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Camp Challenge is designed to give college juniors and sophomores who have 'not taken ROTC courses a chance to enter the program. The camp also qualifies high school graduates for the ROTC program at any of the nations six military junior colleges. BLANDINQ MERC During the encampment, Rodney Hickman, son of Ken and Jessica Hickman of Blanding, has been called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints in the Brazil, Porto Francom received training in basic rifle marksmanship, military drill and ceremonies, communications and dual and small unit tactics. Francom is a student at Southern Utah State University, Cedar City. Alegre Mission. His farewell will be held September 11 at 9 a.m. in Blanding First Ward, South Chapel. Rodney will enter the Mission Training Center in Provo on September 21. George Bayles, a Blanding native, has been appointed the new assistant principal at Pleasant Grove High School in the Alpine School District. He recently completed a doctoral program in curriculum and instruction at Brigham Young University. Bayles has taught in the Utah public schools for 12 years. He taught and coached at San Juan High School in Blanding from 1974 to 1983, serving for two years as vice principal.
