David and Tammy Redd and children have moved to Page, where David has employment. Hope they enjoy their new home and we wish them much success. Beatrice Helquist is home after spending the winter with her daughter in Emporia, Kansas. Her daughters, Carma Barb of Emporia and Norma Madden of Denver came home with her for a visit. Daughters Bernice Perkins and Ora Bay-le- s live in Blanding and all the family except son John welcomed her home. The Monday bus ride for Senior Citizens was to Browns Canyon and surrounding areas. They saw a number of ancient ruins and caves along the way. The dirt roads are very dusty this time of year. They saw several big gravel pits with loads of gravel being hauled. Wool: it's not just for winter by Dennis Hinkamp Utah State University One of the things I like about Utah is that, depending on the part of the state, you can wear wool sweaters months a year. Migrating penguins from Antarctica are often seen roaming the streets wearing ragwool 9-1- 2 sweaters and stocking caps. Okay, maybe Im exaggerating. Maybe the penguins were only wearing light jackets. I couldnt tell. My car windows were too frosted over. For us humans, wool is synonymous with winter and sweaters. This, however, is changing. Because of our increased interest in natural fiber clothing and manufacturers new processing methods, wool is becoming a seasonless fabric. According to Louise Young, fashion merchandising instructor in the Utah State University College of Family Life, wool fabrics no longer require the bulk and itchiness usually associated with wool. She says some of the seasonless wool fabrics are almost as soft as rayon. Young says that wools itchy quality and, to some extent, its propensity to shrink, come from the scales on the wool fibers. New fabric construction pro- all-weath- er cesses take the scales off the fiber. Removing the scales also makes many of these new wool fabrics machine washable and less prone to shrinkage than their predecessors. She cautions though, that you should still read the use and care instructions carefully. Even when machine washing is permissible you may extend the life of your garment by dry cleaning or hand washing it. Young says designers are coming out with more and more seasonless wool garments because wool is versatile and easy to work with. Among the types of seasonless wool fabrics available are crepe, gabardine, jersey, tropical worsted, flannel and challis. Advertising Pays Morris Swenson was the chauffer. Our spring weather was while it really enjoyable lasted! Winter arrived again almost before we knew it, with its wind and cold. But maybe its a good thing. The apricot trees are showing white in their buds which may hold the blossoms back so they wont and risk a bloom so soon killing frost. The Junior Prom was held March 25. Their color scheme was purple and burgundy. We had a brief glimpse of some of the participants and they were gorgeous in their formals and tuxedos. Cleone and Volate Shumway left the middle of last week for. Bassier City, Louisiana to attend the wedding reception of their son Randle. Before they return, they expect to tour parts of Georgia and a number of Prices Effective April 7-1- 3 historical plantations. Last Saturday Tom Keele came to visit his mother and to help her celebrate her birthday with the family here. Tom lives in Orem. It was nice to visit with Nola June Pehrson and her mother, LaVee Morris, last week at the Care Center. Hadnt seen them for some time. Its always enjoyable to visit with old friends.
