Shes worked with different administrations and council members, but says shes only one of many, many volunteers who donate time and effort tow- Price. In conjunction with Pioneer Days this year, the newly activated youth council is making plans to perhaps sponsor an outdoor concert. The youth council, initiated during Caves time on the city council, is also opting for outdoor e a basketball tournament as ard the progress of Wellington. Wellington has its own city recreation program, which runs much the same as the countys program. Powell presides over recreation for the city under the direction of Councilman Arvil Wilson. Basketball finished in March, and kids from age 5 through the 10th grade participated in the winter sport. Powell said one young voMark lunteer, Kilcrease, came to the games and helped wherever he was needed. The dty has its own football, baseball and soccer programs for its youth. Ongoing classes in power tumbling, as well as miniclasses in tole painting and other arts and crafts, have been held. Swimming les sons have been offered at the National 9 swimming pool, formerly the Comfort Inn. When Linda Jewkes was on the council, Powell worked with her on the Pioneer Days celebration. Powell also worked with Councilman Ed Chavez in 1992 for Wellingtons annual Easter egg hunt in the city park. I love Wellington, Powell said. We have fantastic people with a lot of talent. We try to accomplish things locally with other friends in our area. Different groups try to work together for the betterment of the community, such as the Wellington Businessmans Association under the direction of Janet OBerto, the volunteer firemen and the mayor and city Talent Showcase in Wellington is now in its sixth year, Powell said. Talented Wellington residents compete for a prize of $100, and trophies are also awarded. This years showcase will be held toward the end of this month.
