James is a graduate of BYU and is now the county supervisor over week and mosquito control. James graduated from high school here and then attended BYU for a while until he was called to serve an LDS mission to the West Central states. Fresh off from his mission he was drafted and served two years in Vietnam. Both he and Delaina grew up in Ferron, but never knew each other very well due to the fact that he was 10 years older. The only times they probably ever did meet were at occasional scout meetings when Delai-na- s father was James scout master. This was not a very somehow after school, a mission, and the war, James was reintroduced to Delaina Duncan and they were married in the fall of 1973. They had always wanted to live in the country, an ideal place to raise boys, so they started building their home up Rock Canyon in 1980, and Carmell was born followed by Sharia. Even with 5 girls instead of boys, the Nielsons continued to build and soon discovered that the country was as nice a place to raise girls as it was to raise boys. Finally Mervin joined the family and then Amber, Daniel, and their newest addition, little Delaina Ruth. Today the family shares their home in Rock Canyon with all their animals and some 85 head of deer. The Nielsons were honored as Family of the Year last Wednesday in an assembly at the high school. They presented a program displaying their many talents. The program started with a special number on the importance of our families. Kaycee McNulty sang The Wind Beneath My Wings while Maleah Day did a special narration. The children then introduced themselves and told a little about each of their interests and hobbies. The children are as Cheri-1follows: Lannie-16- , Mistie-13- , Carmell-10- , Sharla-8- , , Mervin-6- , Daniel-2- Amber-4- and Delaina , Ruth-- 3 months. Following the introductions the family sang, and then Mr. and Mrs. Nielsen told a little about themselves. James showed slides and told about serving in Vietnam and Delaina told about her experiences when she was named (Continued from Page 1A) the people of Emery County and the state now for over 30 years, he said. Brigham wanted them all to vote, and he told them, Now, sisters, I want you to vote because you are the characters that rule the ballot box. It should be noted that when Utah was admitted as a territory into the Union, the voting privilege for women was withdrawn and was not restored until 1870. Leading men and women of the church had tried to have it restored. Brigham tried to accommodate a woman who sent him a letter in 1871 asking to have her name removed from the records of the church because she had decided to become a spiritualist.
