Deer Hunt Going Well "So far it's been a good hunt," reported Craig Pearson, a Division of Wildlife Resources employee at the Spanish Fork Canyon checking station. "The people coming through seem to be pleased," Pearson said. "There are e lot of deer coming through and they seem to be healthy." Early reports indicate a 10 per cent success ratio through the area, but Pearson indicated that would increase slightly as more hunters pass through the various checkpoints. He said it appeared the ratio would raise to 12 per cent, well within reach of last year's 12.3 per cent ration. According to Dennis Shirley, another DWR spokesman, hunting pressure was down in the northern end of Utah County. In addition, Shirley said, the hunting was slow with a lot of hunters expending ammunition but not bringing anything into the check stations. In the Nebo Loop area, Shirley said, pressure was up and a lot of small bucks were being brought home. In the Reservoir Wasatch area hunters were reporting good success. However, one elk was shot.
