Show Thursday. March 17. Arts 1983 THE HERALD, Provo, Utah, Music, drama, film the people art, and the productions Report Card - Trencficoaf' By ERIC FIELDING Herald Guest Film Reviewer NEW FILMS TRENCHCOAT (PG) is a sur- prisingly enjoyable comedy tradithriller in the tion of "Foul Play." Margot (Lois silly-serio- Entertaining Disney Film Lane) Kidder plays Mickey Raymond, a klutzy court stenographer from San Francisco, who decides to go to Malta and live out her fantasies by writing a detective novel. While there she meets a jewelry salesman, Robert ("Airplane") Hays and murder gets involved in a real-lifmystery. I said this film is surprisingly enjoyable since it is an fast-talkin- g e unheralded new release from the Walt Disney Studios, ..no have not had a very good track record during the last decade. "Trench-coat- " makes two good films in a row from Disney, their last success being "Tex." If you enjoyed "Foul Play," then chances are you'll enjoy this lightweight detective comedy. GRADE: B TIME WALKER (PG) is probably not the film its promotions suggest. Both this film and "ET" have creatures from outer and that is where the space similarity ends. When an earthquake reveals a hidden chamber in King Tut's tomb, an American scientist discovers a strange and mysterious mummy. So far, so good. Unfortunately, from this point on, credibility gets strained a little. The scientist takes this creature to his school in southern California where it is brought to life by The creature, which floats around and hits people in is represented most of the time by a creeping camera with a green filter. The film has brief scenes of nudity despite its "Time Walker" is the biggest laugh laughably bad coming when the screen announces that it's "To Be Contin- - - r slow-motio- n, PG-ratin- g. ued." GRADE: C- THRESHOLD (PG) is one of those "fated films like "The China Syndrome" that is shot just before an historic event occurs to make it so timely. In this case, "Threshold" is the story of the development and successful transplant of an artificial heart. This low-ke- y and thought-provokin- g motion picture even features a heart designed by Dr. Robert Jar-vi- k of the University of Utah Medical Center, the same man who designed the heart which now keeps Barney Clark alive. This d film has brief nudity and - - Page 17 I some people may find the medical proceedures a bit unpleasant to watch. Although there are as many differences as there are similarities, "Threshold" is an interesting piece of "science fiction" that will certainly illuminate the "science fact" which has occurred during the last few months. (Playing in Salt Lake City.) GRADE: B BEST BETS Recommendations are given for PG-rate- the following films: "Gandhi" (PG), "The Pirates of Penzance" (G), "Tootsie" (PG), "E.T. -The Extraterrestrial" (PG), and "The Man From Snowy River" (PG). 1 Our 25 off antique and estate jewelry sale ends Saturday unique collection of investment pieces that can only gain in value as years go on.
