Cedar CEDAR HILLS Hills was a turkey farm. Now it is a growing town with about 100 families. By talking to citizens of Cedar Hills one can learn it is a town where the people work and socialize together. Wayne Hamby and his family were the first to move to the area in August of 1976. According to Hamby, there were five other homes under construction at that time and a night watchman for a major construction company to protect them at night. The Hamby family had the area to themselves for about nine months before other families moved in. Hamby said he hopes to still be in Cedar Hills when 1990 arrives, and added that he expects to see grass clippings blowing instead of dust Hamby likes the rural atmosphere and the combination of people that have moved in. He is presently a town councilman. Mayor Richard B. Turnbow recalled that in November 1977, when the town incorporated, there were about 25 families. Today, there are 76 homes in the original Cedar Hills area and 21 homes in the newly annexed portion. "We have one of the most beautiful locations on earth. We overlook the valley and live close to American Fork Canyon. We have intelligent, friendly people here," Turnbow said. The town citizens seem to agree with the mayor's sentiments. Everyone the Herald interviewed commented that he liked the people and the area. Gail Long said she likes living in a small town because she can get to know everyone. "You can go for walks in the summer and stop and talk with the people you meet instead of passing them," she said. Debra McEwan added that "Cedar Hills is a great community because everybody is willing to help each other." Fred Bow en. who has been active in town affairs, said the community can - POiS I I I PROGRESS it rs We have the lorqest selection in sofas ond sleepers of fabrics, colors, styles, etc. If you are wanting to create just the right atmosphere, we have just the right combinations in furniture. ! j v... Bowen noted that there are many in the town who render service for no remuneration, just a deep desire to serve. He said he believes Cedar Hills has the potential to become one of the most beautiful cities in Utah. When the heavy January snowstorm covered the roads in Cedar Hills, three town citizens joined in clearing the streets. Jeff Linsdstrom, Ron Knittle and Reed Swenson worked with tractors and trenchers until they cleared the roads. Since incorporation, the community has worked together during several clean-u- p days to beautify the town. One hard working citizen. Gary Murdock. admits that be just loves to sweep streets Murdock and his wife, Debbie, also like to host town socials. In 1978. they invited all the adults to an outdoor dinner social. "We like parties," Mrs. Murdock said. "I feel the only way you really get to know people and their interests is through socials." Priscilta Rushton, the justice of the peace, has another reason for living in Cedar Hills. She said Cedar Hills is the right size to provide many opportunities for those who wish to take part in government and have a voice in the decisions that affect them. Since incorporation, the town council and planning commission members have developed several ordinances and resolutions to protect the welfare of the citizens. David Kirkpatrick, who has acted as chairman of the planning commission and is currently a town councilman, observed that Cedar Hills gives its citizens the unique opportunity to be part of the foundation of a new community. His wife, Nancy, added that it has been rewarding experience to have a tailor-mad- e community by participating in the development of local laws and ordinances. .J M Beautiful constructten, design Ron Knittle clears snow from Cedar Hills' streets. coffee tables, mirrors and reciters lamps 741 H.
