Meb Anderson Photo Drama in Steel steel Symbolic of Central Utah's industrial might, a red-hingot is lifted from "soaking pits" at U.S. Steel's Geneva h Works and transported by pit crane to the blooming mill to begin the rolling process. A "roughing" operation, the blooming mill converts the ingot into an elongated "bloom." Reheated after inspection, the bloom proceeds to the structural mill for rolling into a variety of shapes. Geneva, largest industry in the area, employs 5,000 men and women. An additional 1,000 are employed in the steel industry elsewhere in Utah. ot 40-inc- V w i K v 4 i V V V t k w |
