Sunday, February 24. 1980 Rockefeller Visits BYU In Place of Gerald Ford Nelson Rockefeller visited the Brigham Young University campus Oct 1 1974, when he wu acting as vice president of the United SUtet. President Gerald Ford had planned to make the visit but cancelled the speaking engagement because his wife, Betty, had undergone cancer surgery. The message said: "Please convey to Pres. Dallin H. Oaks of Brigham Young University, to President Spencer W. Kimball of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-daSaints, to Sen. Wallace Bennett who has rendered such great service, and to all those assembled at the university's forum meeting today my deep sense of regret at missing this opportunity to be present. "1 commend Brigham Young University for its high standards of y will require the dedicated cooperation of all of the nations of the world, and the Arab nations will have to play a scholarship, morality, integrity and patriotism. As the nation's largest privately operated university prepares for its centennial celebration, it leading role in assisting other nations in development by lending them the needed capital from the vast amounts they now have flowing into their economies.
