Friday night The win was Spnngville s first over Provo since 1965 Spnngville coach Elliott Jordan called the thriller "the biggest win I ve ever had. without a question " The lead changed several times in the game as both teams displaved some fine outside shooting and ball control The Red Devils took an early 15--9 first quarter lead as they patiently worked the ball for the good shots and made the Bulldogs play defense Both teams exchanged baskets to open the second period, and after two Springville turnovers in a row and a Provo bucket, the visitors went back on top and eventually increased their lead The Bulldogs then went into a to stall with 2:03 left in the first half to run out the clock. Springville managed to score on Garth Felix jumper with 20 seconds left to cut the Provo lead to 9 at the half. In the third quarter Provo drilled some long shots to increase its lead to six before holding the ball to work for the last shot of the period. The Bulldogs led by eight at the end of the third quarter, But Springville never gave up and foughtbackto cut the lead to two points with 2:21 left in the game. The crowd - ut 6-- 9 bounds with eight seconds left and then Spnngville called time-ou-t tied up a Provo player long enough for a jump ball. After another Spnngville time-ou- t, a Provo player missed the last shot with three seconds left and the game went into overtime. The overtime penod was delayed over a dispute about whether the Provo player was fouled on the last shot before time ran out. The referee decided to put three minutes on the clock and continue play in overtime. lMi THK HFRALD as Provo coach Jim Spencer complimented his players after the game ind maintained that there were two left when guard Mike Olpm was fouled at the end of regulation time There's no doubt in my mind there were two seconds left on the clock. By ROB WAKEFIELD Herald Correspondent All five Timpview starters scored in double figures and the Thunderbirds capitalized on early Cedar City mis-cuto build sa early lead and went on to defeat the Redmen 3 in Region Six action Friday. The Redmen played a horrendous floor game in the first quarter, committing 11 turnovers, and the Thunder-bird- s worked inside with ease to outdistance them 134 in the early going and glide to a 8 first period advantage. From that point the outcome was never in doubt as the Thunderbirds continued to stretch the margin until midway through the third period. The Redmen made a minor comeback at that mark but it was too little to catch the home club. "We're being very consistent in our play right now. Except for the Pleasant Grove game Wednesday we have had four or five players in double figures and we've scored more than 80 points in four of our last six games," Timpview coach Tim Lewis said. "I think our high scores can be attributed to our fast break offense. We've been able to get the rebounds and get the ball down the floor in a hurry. Right now our players are hungry. While other teams are getting tired from a long season, I can't get my players out of the game because they all want to play so bad," Lewis added. The Timpview determination which has been prevalent in the last several ' games continued during the Cedar City rout. The win was the Thunderbirds' sixth in a row since losing to American Fork in overtime, and it upped their region mark to 2 to keep them in a first place tie with the Cavemen.
