SALT EDA Grant to Help Open Mining Jobs " Approval of an $899,500 grant to help create Jobs in western Utah was announced this week by the Economic Development Administration, U.S. Department of Commedce. The State of Utah is the applicant for the federal funds, which will be used to help build a highway from the site of the Brush Beryllium Company's mine in tne Topaz Mountain area of Juab County to the firm's mill at Lynndyl. . Construction of the highway will enable the company to hire 85 persons and begin mining ore from one of the free world's largest deposits of beryllium, the state said in its application for the EDA funds. Barney Rawlings, veteran Las Vegas sales and conven tion sales man and a former resident of provo, was recently appointed to the Sands staff, it was announced by Sands Executive Vice President Edward H. Nigro. He stated that Rawlings will augment the Sands sales force with two Las Vegas men, Thomas E. Brown as sales director and Jamej L Villers as convention coordinator. Mr. Rawlings was last associated with the Riviera Hotel as vice president of sales for five years. Prior to this he was assistant manager of the Lai Vegas Convention Bureau for teven years. He has attended the Brigham Young University, the Uni versity of Utah and the University of Nevada. He is married to the former Hazel Palfryman and they have four children. He is a member of the LDS Church in Las Vegas. Presently Mr. Rawlings is the Nevada national director of vice chairman of the Hotel Sales Management Association; the Aviation Committee of the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce; a member of Skal Clubs International, and the Air Force Association, and is past national vice president of the Air Force Reserve Officers Association. Mr. Rawlings also has 26 yean of reserve and active duty with the United States Air Force. Business News Notes David B.
