CLIMBING WALL AT THE SWANER ECOCENTER The Swaner EcoCenter, 1258 Center Drive at Kimball Junction, offers climbing on Saturdays and Sundays from 1-3 p.m. The climbing wall is open to most ages. The EcoCenter will provide the climbing harness, but climbers must wear closed-toe shoes. Climbers under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult to sign a liability waiver. CONNECT SUMMIT COUNTY ‘JOURNEY OF HOPE: HEALING TRAUMA DURING WARTIME’ CONNECT Summit County, a nonprofit that raises awareness of mental health issues, will welcome Dr. Omar Reda at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 15, at the Park City Hospital for a discussion on the traumatic implications of immigration, even to a safe place. The Portland Refugee Support Group, Reda’s team in Portland, Oregon, has established a comprehensive approach to refugee trauma that has been very helpful and serves as a model to fill crucial gaps in delivering the best standards of care to this underserved and at-risk population. Award-winning artist teaches ink painting at the Kimball Art Center By SCOTT IWASAKI The Park Record Karen Kurka Jensen was studying to become a librarian in the Twin Cities when a car accident nearly 30 years ago led her to the ink-and-paper paintings of sumi-e. After two-and-a-half years of treatment and recovery, the doctors told her she would suffer chronic pain for the rest of her life. “I was only 34 and decided to search for alternative healers and found a Chinese doctor, a traditionalist who specialized in Tui Na (pronounced TWEE na),” Jensen told The Park Record during an interview at her Heber studio. Tui Na is a deep-tissue massage, and within a year and a half, Jensen had not only recovered.
