Show 1 Kennecott Scholarships Announced 1 Six. Utah high school students ' who are dependents of Kennecott '' Copper Corporation employees have been selected to share a total of $3,000 in scholarships. J. P. O'Keefe, general manager of the Utah Copper Division, said the -six will each receive a $500 cholarship to any accredited institution insti-tution of higher learning in Utah offering a baccalaureate degree. They may enroll for any course of study they desire. The six winners were selected from among applicants from 1 3 high schools throughout the state. The selection was made on the basis of academic capabilities, leadership potential, citizenship and financial need. This is the sixth year such scholarships schol-arships have- been presented by Kennecott in a program to recognize recog-nize and give assistance to deserving deserv-ing high school graduates who are dependent of Kennecott employees iin Utah. Scholarship winners are: Joyce Elise Bedont, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest J. Bedont, 575 Erst Center Street, Midvale, student at Jordan High School; Helga Lorraine Jones, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. Ray Jones, 126 Edith Avenue, Salt Lake City, student stu-dent at South High School; Floyd G. James, son of Mr. and Mrs. George B. James, 2151 West 7800 South, West Jordan, student at Bingham High School; James A. Starr, son of Mr. and Mrs. Courtland P. Starr, 2595 East 3900 South, Salt Lake City, student stu-dent at Olympus High School; Bob J. Taylor, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Taylor, 7994 West 2820 South, Magna, student at Cyprus High School; Fumihiko Watanabe, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hikomune Watanabe, 1 4 Freeman, Bingham Canyon, student at Bingham High School. Scholarship committees at each hi(jh school reviewed all applications. applica-tions. They were then submitted to a Kennecott scholarship committee for final selection. Six alternates were also named. They are: Norma J. Moesser, Cyprus Cyp-rus High School; Elizabeth M. Arnold, Granger High School; Robert Ro-bert B. Buck, Cyprus High School; Leon J. Cheney, Cyprus High School; Michael O. Caulfield, Granger Gran-ger High School; and James H. Gaskill, South High School.
