Harris as president of the Box Elder North Unit; also, the appointments of Mrs. Virginia D. Blackham and Mrs. Margaret Perry, as Chairman; Mrs. Arlene J. Ficklin, R.N., as Service Chairman; Mrs. Florence M. Harris and Mrs. Sally S. Petersen, R.N. as Education Chairman; Mrs. Eula W. Thompson as Public Information Chairman and Mrs. Valera R. Getz as Secretary-Treasure- r of the Box Elder North "Untf of the American Cancer Society. Dr. C. Duane Kerr will serve as medical advisor to the Unit and Dr. George C. Ficklin is a state board member of the American Cancer Society. A District Conference was held last week at the Weber Club in Ogden, which involved the officers of the Box Elder North Unit, Box Elder South, Weber, Davis North, Cache and Rich Counties. Workshops were held throughout the day, which were conducted by State and Division Officers of the American Cancer Society. At the conference, Dr. Gayle H. Keyes, incoming "president of the Weber County unit, stressed the importance of the educational effort carried on by the society. Although a cure for all cancers is till down the road, Keyes emphasized that 40 percent of those who seek medical help early enough can be cured. He said the cure rate for women with breast cancer who have it treated before cancerous cells spread to other glands, is 80 percent. Keyes said the society's education program stresses the importance of seeking and seeking it help early from ' reputable medical sources rather than from "quacks". Alaska.
