Show "' ' THE Jl And so with the beginning of November the annual trek to Arizona and warmer weather begins for Mr. and Mrs. Ray Ashcraft of Tremonton. Typical of many folks in the valley who prefer to spend the winter months basking in the 80 Wilfred Harris, and Russ Waldron. "The people you meet are a great bunch everyone is on the same level," beamed Ashcraft. The Ashcrafts opened a jewelry store in 1939 in high heating bills. Mostly retired, the groups often meet up in the south to exchange information on the scenic wonders of the countryside and chat about the relatives back in Utah. "Only crazy people that enjoy life go there," chuckled Ashcraft. Appropriately enough the rock shop owner heads to Quartzite, Arizona, every year to search for nteresting stone and wood. Quartzite boasts a population of twelve people during the hot summer months north of the Crossroads Cafe. Here Ray and his wife buy, sell, cut, polish and create jewelry of intense beauty. Self taught in geology, Ashcraft has been the past president of the Golden Spike Gem and Mineral Society in Ogden, who, will sponsor the largest gem and mineral show in the country in Weber. He has also taught silversmith and Lapidary, (art of stone grinding) at Utah State in Logan. Working with all of his equipment out of doors at his winter resort Ashcraft can't wait for Spring. "The bellie flowers and cactus are always spectacular especially when the rain is abundant," Ashcraft sighed. when the winter rolls around and mother nature becomes a bit more hospitable the population swells to 2,000 retirees and vacationers. The Ashcrafts who own a mobile home in Quartzite merely load up their van and move their business operation to the dessert oasis. One might think that loneliness and homesickness would be a problem so far from home RAY AS11CRAFT works at his hobby and business but they often get visits from operating a rock shop. Like many in the area he headed to the such friends as Jess Day, warmer climate of Arizona this week where he collects even more rocks. : Box Tops Home From Las Vegas Sought returned Baads-gaar- Monday y son-in-la- They enjoyed seeing the Eddy Arnold show and went boating on Lake Mead.
