The Spirit of 76 with "200 Years of Memories, themed the Senior Citizens event held in the Fairgrounds' Robinson Building. The event included a talent show, with displays of handwork and stage performances., THE EVENT is one of many that will be held in Idaho and culuminate with a state-wid- e heritage talent show in Boise late this spring. The Bear Lake County Heritage Arts Festival will be held Friday in Montpelier and the Caribou County event is scheduled for two weeks in Soda Springs, according to Mrs. Lucille Weston, area coordFred-rickso- n, inator. Winners of the stage talent portion of the event from each county will contest for the right to present the region in a Soda Springs DURING THE program, Mrs. Fredrickson gave a tribute from the senior citizen to the youth of America. Youngsters Ray Buttars, Greg Allen, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Jones, Rhonda Lee Barbara Jo Fredrickson, Scott Fredrickson and Rhonda Rallison were chosen to present the youth and were given scrolls. A tribute was read and to them and Miss Rallison read an acceptance speech. The tribute, scroll message and acceptance speech are reprinted below: Mrs. Fredrickson said the county's senior i mw mr l. t a mm Mf citizens wished to thank the following for helping make the event the success it was: merchants for displays and door prizes, Rod Pierce Federated Dairy, seniors who contributed food and money, court house personnel, students, teachers, city employes, Preston Citizen, Book of Memories contributors, Sheriff's Auxiliary, board members, judges, contestants, young citizens, Mary Ann Moser who represented those past 90, site manager Virgil Jensen, Maurice Tin-geboard president, public, families and others who helped. y, "To the youth of America, you young people here today are representing all the young people of America, citizens of the United States, heirs to a precious heritage. May this small token, this program and exhibit of heritage arts, sponsored by your grandparents and in great-grandparen- ts remember-anc- e of our nation's 200th birthday anniversary encourage you to appreciate the high ideals of our forefathers, to understand the principles of our constitution, to keep it safe and intact from all who would change or destroy it. Also to assume gladly and wisely the obligations of citizenship. On you young people of America, depends the future of our precious nation. Her welfare and fulfillment of her destiny. "May you carry out your obligations always with dignity, honesty, bravery and courage. May you be more wise and show more strength and duty to our nation that the two previous generations have done. "It is a difficult tast we bequeth to you but keep our symbol ever before you with honor, guard our flag, never let it be desecrated or fall to the ground. The colors were chosen with thoughtful prayer; white for purity, blue for loyalty; red for bravery; 13 stars and 13 stripes. The 13 stripes stand for each state of the Nation; the 13 stars also; a new star to be added for each new state to join the union. The 13 stripes to remain for all to know we began with 13 United States. "The great Eagle, tearless and brave, beautiful, graceful and strong, our national bird, protect it; most of all, our constitution was our greatest symbol of all, "in God we trust." "It shall be the responsibility of the young citizens of America to accept the responsibility to uphold the constitution of this nation, to maintain and defend these rights, priviledges and freedoms which the senior citizens of America have fought to establish; it will also be the responsibility of the young citizens of America to protect these freedoms and pass them on to the future generations of America un- tvJt ' m T bs i vvw - Jjd : I L ' "V -- tarnished and unchanged and with the same charge to keep the heritage as they have received it." We realize that a country this wonderful didn't come easy. Many lives were given for the great dream of freedom and much time dedicated to the building and making of the constitution. It was you people who made the Bicen- tennial possible people who love her and are proud to serve her people who chose her emblems, fought her wars and stood by her for 200 years made this possible. "As we accept this great task, we promise that we will first remember our great heritage and will stnd by the cause of freedom, that we will love and respect our nation's flag and last, we will work together to uphold the standard which our forefathers have set. ' "When the times come that we must bequeath America to tomorrow's youth, may we say we have kept all that we've promised, and nothing we have done has brought shame upon our ancestors.
