Show Most Valuable Student Scholarships Awarded The Brigham City Elks Lodge this week announced the winners of its "Most Valuable Student, Scholarship - Leadership" contest. Darlene Mortenson, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Roy K. Mortenson, Tremonton, took first place in the girl's division and Steven Weight, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Weight Perry, placed first among the boys. Miss Mortenson is a Stera ling Scholar nominee, member of the National Honor Society, an Honor Roll student for six years and was a member of the Bear River High Young Americans TV Quiz Team. She was Chess secretary for the Club, LanSirs (jazz band) and the Radio Club. She was a member of "The .Chief-tan'Bearathon ", "Bear Cub" and "Smoke Signals" staff. Miss Mortenson was also singles champion in city tennis tournament, Jr. Sunday School organist and of the Red Cross Volunteer Training Program. Mr. Weight is president of the studentbody and of the wrestling team at Box Elder the state and has defeated Japanese and Mexican National champions in freestyle wrestling. He is listed in "Who's Who American High Among School Students," has been on the school honor roll for four years and was captain of. the Young American team. He is active in LDS church youth activities.
