J can't employees buy their sick Unfortunately, it is not possible to "buy" an employee's sick leave when they are separated. Sick leave is governed by statute (law) and cannot be changed without changing the statute.Court rulings have specifically stated that there is no basis in law to pay employees a lump sum cash payment for accumulated or accrued sick leave. Although a few employees may be tempted to abuse their sick leave after receiving a RIF notice, the day may come when they will be glad their sick leave is available. Sick leave is good insurance against major illness or injury, and ensures receipt of a paycheck while you are unable to work. For employees who are separated, accumulated sick leave balances can be recredited if they are by the federal government within three years. An important case in point occurred during the last RIF. An employee was given a RIF sick separation notice and began using all of his em-. the RIF the leave. Priorto separation date, ployee was placed and not separated. These changes are due to shrinking budgets and conforming to state and federal policies on the busing of our children. The Davis County School District has informed all county residents that bus service will not be provided for students within VA miles of the school for grade school children and two miles for junior high school students, at the start of this school year. This distance policy is being applied to everyone served by the Davis County School District, not just to those serving Hill AFB students. Larry Dawson, director of the Family Support Center, is working with the Davis School District to ensure that base personnel are treated equally and with the same consideration as other residents of Davis County. I want the Davis County School District to ensure that changes that affect base families are fair and equitable. I also expect that we, as parents and as a community, will do the best we can to ensure that our children arrive at school safely and that we conform to policies that are fair and equitable. Mr. Dawson will coordinate with base and community agencies to work out a plan that will give those children who walk to school a safe and timely route. There is an information pamphlet available from the Davis School District that explains their policies and the rationale for their changes. It is titled "Davis School District Transports Kudo J pharmacy is one of the busiest pharmacies in the Air Force. I There are many factors that must be con-- f sidered to develop a viable water plan. 649th Civil Engineer Squadron officials monitor water pressure and reservoir levels during various times of the day to ensure fire protection requirements and hospital needs can be met throughout the day and night. Total watering at night reduces water pressure below acceptable limits. Evening and night time hours are used to refill reservoirs to ensure water pressures are consistently acceptable. Therefore, sprinkler systems must be operated at various times throughout the day and night to ensure all needs are met. Q I live on 700 South in Clearfield, where the major construction is going on. I would like to give kudos to the female military person who assisted in stopping a major disaster on the highway. There was an accident recently and traffic was piling up. This person took it upon herself to get out and direct traffic. She did a beautiful job getting the traffic to flow efficiently. Hill AFB military and civilian employees truly take pride in helping the community. We have a workforce of true professionals who stand ready to assist The military member felt she needed to do her part, which made a difference. 1 appreciate your taking the time to comment on her efforts. |
