Employees who have post-195military service and who are, or will be, eligible for Social Security must pay this military deposit by Sept. 29 to avoid paying interest. This applies to all individuals subject to the Civil Service Retirement System before Oct. 1, 1983. Individuals hired in a position subject to the CSRS after Oct. 1, 1983, have a two-yeinterest-fre- e grace period. If you are eligible for Social Security and do not milipay the deposit of 7 percent on your post-195Office of Personnel the Management tary earnings, will recompute your retirement at age 62 and your annuity will be reduced. This will also reduce the survivor annuity for spouses. You may make your deposit any time prior to retirement, but you accrue interest at a variable rate determined by the Department of the Treasury. The interest rate for 1985 is 13 percent, and 11.125 percent for 1986. The surcharge was established to comply with congressional requirements to recover a part of personnel, operational and maintenance costs. At this time the surcharge is a flat rate ($1.10 for breakfast, $2.15 for lunch and dinner meals) which is paid in addition to the price of the meal. For example, a 10 cent breakfast item, plus $1.10 surcharge, totals $1.20. Under the new system, 150 percent of the actual cost of the food purchased will be paid in addition to the price of the meal. For example, a 10 cent item plus 150 percent surcharge totals 25 cents. This should be a more equitable system for those people buying a small meal or drink item only. For more information contact Marvel Seay, Ext. 73686. ffaisttestt fDavis County Glass Co.
