Would it be possible for Travel to publish some sort of document for TDY travelers that would help them figure what their per diem should be? Such a document could help ehminate misinterpretation by Travel when computing per diems and allow the traveler to check the figures on his voucher. The Travel section strives to correctly compute all travel voucher payments. Our travel clerks are always happy to review any travel computation and resolve any difference with the traveler. Quite often there is a logical explanation for what a traveler perceives to be an inequity or error in the computation. The regulations are voluminous and it would be impossible to cover the multitude of conditions in publications to all travelers. When a vital change is made that impacts the method by which TDY pay is computed, measures are taken to ensure personnel are notified of the basic methods of computation via the base newspaper, bulletin items, letters to travel monitors, etc. Additional information can be obtained by calling or visiting our Travel Service Center. A Testing distracts drivers g NP 1985 Pontiac Trans Am Fully loaded with T-to- ps, low miles I training for our Explosives Ordnance Disposal Teams. All regulations and operating instructions are followed in conducting this training. Vehicle traffic regularly travels on Maine Avenue within 400 feet of this explosive training area and no accidents have been attributed to this training. Inhabited buildings are also within 500 feet of this training area. This training occurs on an almost daily basis, and due to the number of teams involved would create serious mission impact to place time restrictions on it. Operating a vehicle at the posted speed limit, while maintaining adequate following distance, should prevent accidents being caused by minor distractions. All vehicle operators should be aware that loud noises (sonic booms, thunder, backfires, etc.) can occur at any time and drive accordingly. How about rain gutters? been to consideration given installing the new concrete QHas guttersin to protect the 1200 area from rain and clocks installed when ice damage winter weather comes? The existing project to replace the docks zone buildings does not on the A clude roof gutters and downspouts. Typically, 1200 Munitions testing in the vicinity of build-in1623 could be dangerous to motorists because the explosions and shock waves are very distracting. Would it be possible to avoid scheduling these tests when the North Gate is RSBiiiiBiiSliii appreciate your concern for traffic safety on our base. The explosions you refer to A are not munitions tests but proficiency in- this kind of work would be done when the roof was replaced. Some of the roofs in the 1200 area will.be replaced in the near future; however, only the gutters and downspouts that are exist ing now will be replaced. They are usually only located over the building entrances. Gutters on these buildings don't work well. Because the roofs are not insulated, the snow and ice melts and runs down to the gutters and freezes. The ice backs up the roof and its weight eventually tears the gutters off the building. The gutters seem to cause more problems than they prevent. The present contract will apply penetrating sealer to all new concrete surfaces to help protect the concrete from attack by the winter conditions. Lucky to have Hill We constantly read and hear the negative side of Hill AFB aircraft noise. I think it's time someone reminded people that this whole area would fold completely without Hill AFB and we are lucky it is here. The missions have to be accomplished regardless of the noise level and we should be willing to accept that fact. x Thank you for taking the time to express your support for Hill. We are definitely concerned about aircraft noise levels and how they are perceived in the local area. Hill's flying units naturally wish to maintain the flying levels required to assure their mission readiness. At the same time, however, they want to create the least possible disturbance to local residents. The base has, on numerous occasions and in diverse forums (including the news media), expressed the desire to avoid the encroachment of urban development, which is to the disadvantage of the Air Force and public in general. We've also attempted to keep the public informed, through the media, whenever flying activities might create unusual noise situations. A tfyl982 1982 Pontiac Bonneville 4-do- or, Auto..
