Thomas was selected as the 1881st Communications Squadron Airman of the Quarter and Base Airman of the Quarter, but some may consider him a "unique airman" because most recently he was selected as the squadron's Airman of the Year. Stephen D. Mitchell, 1881st Communications Squadron, has been named Air Traffic Controller of the Quarter for the third quarter 1985. He earned the title based on job performance, supervisory recommendation and performance in front of a board of his supervisors and peers. Selection for the honor was based on knowledge of air traffic control procedures, Air Force and squadron history, current events, professional military education and participation in commu- nications Operations Specialist School at Sheppard AFB, Texas.
