CHARLES McCAUSLAND through the responsible agency for action. It is requested that you give your Commander, Ogden ALC supervisor and chain of command the opportunity to work with you in an- - Sick leave request spelled out There are times when it is hard for em-ployees to request sick leave personally because of the nature of their illness and thus have a third party call for them. Why do some supervisors insist their employees call in personally? is not the intent of management to an additional burden on a sick employee but rather to monitor the employee's condition, out of concern, and to offer assistance. A second factor is sick leave abuse. Unfortunately, there are employees who abuse their sick leave and have a third party call in for them rather V Alt than speak directly to their supervisor. To protect the rights of both management and the employee, AFLC and AFGE have negotiated a uniform method for requesting sick leave. Section 24.01 of the Master Labor Agreement states, "Employees should request sick leave by contacting their immediate supervisor...." Employees who choose to request sick leave through a third party risk disciplinary action along with having the missed time marked AWOL as there is no provision for that form of request in the ML A. While there is no provision, common sense suggests that there may be occasions when an employee would be unable to personally telephone, such as emergency hospitalization, telephone unavailability, etc. I would like to emphasize that this method for requesting sick leave was adopted to help both the employee and management. to someone who is not expecting it as it is quite easy to end up in the oncoming lane of traffic. Would it be possible to paint some dotted yellow lines or center markings to warn the people that the road does move to the right? Your suggested paint striping was an excellent suggestion and has been plished. Traffic safety will be greatly improved because of your concern. We commend you for your suggestion. policies to minimize the turmoil. Your suggestions do have some merit.
