Show HILL TOP TIMES gr O Friday, January 10, 1986 uealoHy yenr nual base spring cleanup held in April. While results were most readily recognized by military and civilian personnel, there were other programs conducted on base which had an impact outside the gates. Recycling, water treatment, land recovery and precious metal recovery are examples of ongoing efforts receiving notice throughout the country. The monies generated by the collection and sale of recyclable products provided funds for Morale, Wel- fare and Recreation projects. Air Force projects included the assistance fund campaign with Hill's contribution reaching $60,278.35; the Secretary of the Air Force Safety Award to AFLC for achievements in aircraft mishap rates, military and civilian injuries, motor vehicle accidents, missile mishaps and accident prevention programs (March); the annual Savings Bond campaign; and successful competition in the 1985 Tops in Blue Air Force finals. Financial Management Cost cutting stayed strong with initiatives like the Logistics Excellence Program, suggestion program awards, unit financial management recognition and expansion of Competition Advocacy. The Ogden ALC had been selected to prototype the Air Force Logistics Excellence Program. The new program, which is still active, provides a forum for submitting ideas for doing a job better. Almost 500 ideas were generated here from February through March. Fourteen were subsequently imand seven went Air plemented command-wid- e Force-wid- e. here is HELP GROW (Help Eliminate Logistics Problems with Grass Roots Operating Waivers). This program, set up last year by the Department of Defense, encourages changes in regulations, manuals and technical ordrs if they contain obstacles to maximum efficiency. Hill led the AFLC in the suggestion program for fiscal 1985 with 4,352 money-savinsuggestions received and 1,217 adopted. This was the fourth year this base led other ALCs and, also, the fourth A LEP spin-of- f g (from page 1) year AFLC led other commands in the Air Force program. The Cost and Management Analysis Branch and the Accounting and Finance Branch here won outstanding work performance awards in the same AFLC competition which recognized base employee John Burke as the Outstanding Cost and Management Analysis Civilian of the Year (March). The Accounting and Finance Office received the AFLC Outstanding Accounting and Finance Quality Assurance award for 1985 during ceremonies held here in December. Five in the Directorate of Distribution won Value Engineering Program awards in January for saving the Air Force more than a combined $2 million in weapon system transportation costs. Increased competition and purchasing spares in economical quantities are part of the Competititon Advocacy mission. The directorate, which celebrated its second anniversary in August, has scored major victories here with a staff recently moved to new but temporary offices near the West Gate. Business stimulating private industry included the Readiness Enhancement at the Community House program and the Directorate of Maintenance Handisort program.
