Employees and their supervisors will develop specific job performance elements for the employees' positions, along with standards on how the elements are to be ; supervisor will complete the appraisal, assign performance ratings and discuss them with the employee. In this process, the supervisor must rate each job performance element, the measuring employee's accomplishments against the standards for that element. Each element will be rated "Did Not Meet," "Met" or "Exceeded" requirements, with a brief justification for , each. "in the past, employees may have wondered how their supervisors rated their performed. Performance elements and standards, known together as the work plan, will then be recorded on parts 2 and 3 of the new Air Force Form 1281. During the appraisal period, employees and supervisors will discuss progress toward meeting requirements in the work plan. Built-- : in flexibility will allow job performance elements and standards to be changed when appropriate. Unacceptable: Employee does not meet requirements of one or' more critical elements. , Appraisal results will determine merit pay and other management actions and will be used, to help employees improve performance. "The new General Manager Appraisal System will offer sound opportunities for recognizing good job performance," Mr. Prather said.
