Show Thursday, May 30, 2002 Times Newspaper Page B8 IRS announces more taxpayer assistance I IR I A T The arsonist who torched the STS Construction building at 532 S. Commerce is a 24-year-old man of Santaquin. He was an employee employ-ee of the business and was apparently upset about his work situation. Officer Rob Christensen spotted a stolen red Ford Taurus occupied occu-pied by three Hispanic males that had been stolen out of Provo. When he spotted the car, the men inside were visibly nervous and kept looking look-ing at him. They quickly pulled into a parking lot at 1450 N. State and stopped the car and tried to walk away from it. They were taken into custody for possession of a stolen vehicle and turned over to I'rovo Police authorities. Officers arrested a 28-year-old man on Saturday night after being called to the home at approximately 770 W. Center Street on a domestic problem In the course of taking care of the domestic problem, prob-lem, Officer Jason Garcia asked the man's wife if her husband had weapons in the home. She said he did have a number of guns. While inside the home, Garcia noticed a laser sight on a coffee table and asked about it. He was told it was for the AK-47 that the man had. Officers were suspicious of his possession of the weapons because he is not a citizen of the United States, he comes from Kenya. After leaving leav-ing the home, Officer Garcia contacted an Immigration and Naturalization Service agent. The agent found that the man had entered the country on a visitor's visa and overstayed the visit. He was currently in the county illegally. Possession of any firearm by someone other than a US citizen is a second degree felony, and can also be prosecuted in federal court as well. A search warrant to search for the assault rifle was written for the residence and served by Orem officers. They located two assault rifles, two hunting rifles, a shotgun (equipped with a pistol grip), and three handguns in a large gun safe inside a closet in the man's bedroom. He was booked into the Utah County Jail. There is an INS hold on him and INS officials will be contacting Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms officials to discuss possible federal charges against him. A burglary was reported Saturday night to a home in the area of 200 N. 300 E. The only thing missing was a diamond ring with a large single stone cut in a triangle. The burglar entered the home through an unlocked window. Officers arrested a 40-year-old Orem man for intoxication and disorderly on Saturday night. He was also apparently suicidal because they found him running out in front of cars on 800 N. trying to get himself hit. He was unsuccessful in his attempts and was booked into the Orem holding facility. A car was broken into Sunday night and video and stereo equipment equip-ment was stolen from it. The car was parked in the area of 1000 N. 200 W. The suspect broke a window to gain entry. A gun and cash were stolen from a home during a burglary that occurred over the weekend in the area of 200 S. 700 E. The home was ransacked. Entry was made by breaking through a locked door.
