Bench will celebrate her 90th birthday at an open house hosted by her children on Saturday, June 8, 2002, from 6-8 6-8 p.m at the house of her son, Paul K. Kennedy 863 East 500 North in Orem. Gwen was born June 8, 1912 in Ephriam, Utah. To Soren O. and Mary Sorensen . She received her education in the Ephriam schools. In 1930 she married Lorece Mark and they had one son, Donald. They were later divorced. In 1937 she mar ried Dee James Kennedy in the Manti Temple. They had three children. Dee died ' in November of 1942. In 1945 she GWEN married Reed M Bench in Salt Lake City. They moved to Orem in 1947. Reed since died September 22, 1994. - Gwen was a temple worker in the Manti temple. After mov i 4'- - Gastroentologist honored with award Dr. Wynn H. Hemmert, director direc-tor of the Endoscopy Laboratory at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center and moist. In keeping with the adventurous adven-turous nature of our dining experience, my companion opted to try something a little unusual on the menu, and decided on the Outback Rack a 14-ounce rack of New Zealand lamb, served with Cabernet sauce. He enjoyed the dish very much. With our waitress graciously boxing our uneaten food so we could take it home with us, we succumbed to the temptation to try one of several descriptive desserts offered at Outback. The Chocolate Thunder From Down Under was as splendid as the name implies. The dessert consisted of a fresh-baked pecan brownie and vanilla ice cream, topped with hot, homemade home-made chocolate sauce and chocolate shavings. Fabulous! The chocolate sauce, like other dressings and toppings at Outback, are made fresh in-house. in-house. Outback Steakhouse managing manag-ing partner Jeff Weissgerber spoke with us and said there are 750 stores now, in 49 states and 20 countries. The Outback chain started in Tampa 12 years ago; the Orem store opened six years ago in September. The restaurant is open only for dinner. Reservations are not taken, but guests can call ahead (764-0552) for faster seating. There is also a curbside take-out service, where orders can be called in and delivered straight out to the car. She is active in the L.D.S. church and has served in many positions. Gwen is a member of the D U P . American Legion auxiliary auxil-iary and has been in charge of Utah Girls State over many years. She enjoys quilting, crocheting cro-cheting and reading. She is the mother of five children: Donald Sorensen of Seaside, California; J e a n n i n e Gordon of Orem; James Dee Kennedy S. BENCH (deceased); Marilyn K. O'Givin of Oakley, Utah; Paul K. Kennedy of Orem. She has 22 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren. (UVRMC), was presented the Physician of Distinction award Wednesday, May 22 by Intermountain Health Care. Dr. Hemmert was selected for this honor in part for his commitment com-mitment to eh fields of Gastroentology and Endoscopy and for his dedication to his patients and colleagues. Over the years, Dr. Hemmert has been the president and chairman of the board for Central Utah Medical Clinic and very instrumental in improving the quality of care offered there. He has also been the Medical Staff President at UVRMC and a member of the Community Advisory Committee for the Department of Medical Dietetics at Brigham Young University. Dr. Hemmert is the chairman chair-man for the Compliance Temple Square Concerts for June Eleven impressive concerts highlight June's Temple Square Concerts, including internationally-known piano jurists and recording artists who will perform while in Salt Lake City for the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition. Sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, eleven Temple Square concerts will be in the Assembly Hall, all starting at 7:30 p.m. Following standard concert protocol, children under eight years of age are encouraged encour-aged to visit other venues than attend concerts. June 13 - Akira Imai, Bachauer piano jurist, one of Japan's most respected artists and teachers, has appeared as soloist and chamber cham-ber musician in major concert halls worldwide and for fifteen years served as professor of piano at the State University of Music in Vienna. He will play numbers by Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, Ravel, and Friedman. ' Friday. June 14 - Douglas Humpherys, Bachauer piano jurist, and noted American professor pro-fessor of music at Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, has appeared as a concerto soloist with numerous orchestras throughout the world.
