Sub-Contractors for Santa The Utah Valley Home Builders Build-ers Association and many local companies will help make the holidays brighter for some Utah County families. The UVHBA's Trades Contractors Committee, under the direction of Steve Caldwell and Ron Nielsen, and crews made up of UVHBA members, mem-bers, will do safety and comfort repairs on over 30 homes today. The "Sub Contractors for Santa" project did repairs on roofs, plumbing, replaced windows, win-dows, hot water heaters, installed new furnaces, built rams and stair railing and many other necessary nec-essary and safety items for the families. Area clergy, from Lehi to Salem, Sa-lem, were asked for a list of families fami-lies in their communities with single parent households, elderly and disabled who could use a helping hand. The Trades Contractor Con-tractor Committee previously visited the families to see what needed to be done on the home and make a list of supplies. All the materials and labor were given to the families at n cost to the homeowners. Over 50 local companies and their employees, em-ployees, all members of the Utah Valley Home Builders Association, Associa-tion, generously donated the time, money and materials necessary nec-essary to do the repairs on these homes. Last year, the "Sub-Contractor for Santa" project was started. The original goal was to do re pairs on 10 homes. The UVHBA surpassed their goal in 1998 and mended 16 families' homes. It did not stop there! UVHBA members then game a total of $860 to be used for Sub for Santa for some of the families' Christmas gifts. The project was such a huge success and there were so many willing to help that UVHBA decided de-cided to do it again this year and set the goal to repair 25 homes. Again the goal was exceeded , with over 30 homes receiving repairs. re-pairs. Tow of the families will also ' receive gifts of clothing, toys and food for their families on Christmas Christ-mas morning.
