Show Orem-Geneva Times Page 14 ProvoOrem Chamber of Commerce Wednesday, January 30, 1991 Chamber sponsors Christmas events The Chamber of Commerce once again sponsored the annual Christmas parade and Family Night at Orem City hall to welcome wel-come Santa Claus to the ProvoOrem area. This year's parade featured three wisemen leading llama's representing the camels that the wisemen of old rode to find the Christ child and a big balloon arch put together by students Retirees Can Avoid Quarterly Tax Payments Many retirees can have federal income in-come tax withheld from their pensions and annuities to avoid making estimated esti-mated tax payments. A retiree who chooses not to have tax withheld may have to make estimated esti-mated tax payments during the tax year if enough tax is not withheld from other income subject to withholding. Normally, tax withheld from periodic peri-odic pension or annuity payments is based on marital status and the number of withholding allowances claimed on the withholding certificate. Form W-4P, W-4P, or similar form from the payor. However, if a retiree does not give the payor a withholding certificate, the tax will be withheld as if the retiree is married claiming three withholding allowances. Retirees should keep in mind that they may be subject to a penalty for underpayment of estimated tax if an insufficient amount of withholding is taken from pension and annuities or if estimated tax payments are not made in sufficient amounts. Free Tax Counseling For Seniors Taxpayers age 60 or older can get free help preparing their federal income in-come tax returns through a special program called Tax Counseling for the lildcrly ( ICE). TCI: volunteers set up sites in retirement re-tirement homes, libraries, churches, neighborhoods and many other locations loca-tions convenient to seniors. They also assist the home-bound. KZOL radio broadcast live from the parade and advertised heavily heavi-ly to let community members know of the best Christmas parade ever in Utah County. The parade was held the day after Thanksgiving and included participants form 70 businesses in the area. After the parade Mayor Joe Jenkins turned on the lights and the Women's Division of the Chamber organized a Nativity Program at the Tabernacle. Orem High School Choir sang and danced at Orem City Hall as anxious children awaited the arrival of Santa Claus. Mayor Blaine Willes shared a Christmas message and lit the lights at the City Hall to start the Christmas season. Little Caesars provided free pizza for the guests. Chamber President Steve Densley commented, "We are pleased to be able to sponsor these Christmas activities that help to tie the community together.
